Trial Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered security agents to bundle the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, out of the courtroom, after he insisted that judgement would not be delivered in the terrorism charge the Federal Government entered against him.

Following Kanu’s repeated shouts that the trial judge must show him where it was written in the law that he was not entitled to file a written address in the case against him, the court temporarily halted its proceedings to enable security operatives to take him out of the room.

Justice Omotosho stood down the matter after he delivered a ruling that dismissed fresh motions the IPOB leader filed after the case was slated for judgement.

According to the court, the motions contained issues that were previously raised by the defendant.

As predicted, Nnamdi Kanu turned extremely rabid when the court ruled against his three motions on notice all clearly calculated to prevent the Judgment from being delivered. The scene was thoroughly shameful and absolutely contemptuous of the Court and cast Ndigbo in very bad light. He was promptly removed from the courtroom. It is fairly obvious that Nnamdi Kanu is seriously afraid of the consequences of his terrorist activities for which he is on trial. He appears not man enough to face up to the consequences of his terrorist actions and is doing all he can to stop the delivery of judgment fixed for today. In view of the effect of s.266 (1) (a) ACJA 2015 the proceedings went on in his absence and Judgment is ongoing as we speak. It remains to be seen what he intends to argue on appeal!! Ndigbo are not telling themselves the truth about Nnamdi Kanu in this matter or are scared to do so and that is quite sad.

He did same to Justice Binta Nyako, thoroughly embarrassed and rained insults on the Judge but rather than send him out, she returned the case to the Chief Judge, FHC and stepped down from the case.

His lawyers later claimed that he had psychological and mental problems responsible for his violent conduct in Justice Binta Nyako's court.


This Justice Omotosho is obviously a no-nonsense Judge. He threw him out of his court!

The court is meant to be a hallowed place.

It's a very bad day, he should be sentenced to death. This is not fair compared to what he has done. Nigeria is not church or heaven for Christ's sake. We have a constitution that is carried out on the non-influential. Some people will continue to lobby for his release and forgiveness. We should just remove death sentence from our laws in any form, why is anyone being sentenced to death sentence when the judge can use Matthew 23v23 instead?
