FG Demands Death Sentence For Nnamdi Kanu by Peterobiisathie(op): 2:59pm On Nov 20, 2025

The Nigerian government has demanded the imposition of death sentence on Nnamdi Kanu following his conviction on terrorism charges.

Counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, informed the court that the sections of the law under which Kanu was charged and convicted carried death sentence without any option.

Addressing the court after the pronouncement, the senior lawyer said the court has no discretion to exercise than to impose maximum punishment on him in line with the dictates of the law.

Awomolo held that Kanu throughout the trial did not show remorse for the offences he committed against the Federal Republic of Nigeria but chose to be militant, arrogant and unruly in his attitude.

He also demanded that all properties seized from Kanu be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The prosecution counsel equally demanded that Kanu be taken to prison where his security will be guaranteed till when the judgment against him would be executed.

The so called FG asking for death penalty in court to make it look like the Yoruba judge is not reading scripted judgment they gave to him.

He is going to get life sentence, 1 of the charges even have death sentence as penalty....
Good for him that in Nigeria Presidents don't sign the death sentence...
It can be commuted to life in prison by appellate court...

Kanu wanted to speed up his downfall.
The court granted his request to change the first Judge on his case and she was recused, Yet he was rude to the court and kept threatening and daring the appointed judge that he doesn’t have the guts to sentence him. Those fighting for his cause should be ashamed of him.

Given the way he dismissed his Lawyers and opted for self representation he wanted to be celebrated as an hero and court judgements are good at that

That is the law. If found guilty of the charges, then let the law apply.

However, the judge would tamper justice with mercy and commute it to life imprisonment or longer jail term.
From the pleading of his sacked legal team, Alloy, and his constituency reps who passionately pleaded for mercy by the judge. I believe that he'll not get the death penalty.

The man Kanu is very arrogant and foolish who, if let off the hook will do worse things. He even abused the prosecution lawyer in presence of everyone today.
