U.S. Congress Cites Nnamdi Kanu, Faults Nigeria’s Judiciary (Video, Photos) by Glimpsetv(op): 8:19pm On Nov 20, 2025

The U.S. Congress is currently discussing Nigeria’s failing judiciary and the country’s declining respect for the rule of law.

They are using the case of Nnamdi Kanu as a major example — a development that is not a good look for Nigeria’s judicial system.

Here is what is being said right now in the ongoing U.S. Congressional session:

The speaker said, "Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a clear example. In 2022, Nigeria's Court of Appeal struck down the charges against Nnamdi Kanu and ordered his release. The UN Group on Arbitrary Detention has also called for his unconditional release. Yet he remains in solitary confinement, in deteriorating health, and recently had to represent himself in court.

Nigeria has signaled that the law is optional and targeting Christians is fair game.
Just hours ago this morning, despite the pleas and cries of the Nigerian people and many Nigerian lawmakers, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was convicted on all charges.
For fiscal year 2025, the U.S. requested nearly 8 billion dollars for Sub-Saharan Africa. But when Americans see political prisoners, judicial defiance, and the slaughter of Christians, they understandably ask: why should their tax dollars support governments that refuse to protect their own people? Is our aid aiding genocide?
Nigeria is a nation of tremendous potential, but that potential is being choked out by violent persecution of its Christian population. No country can build a stable future where churches are burned, believers are killed, and communities live in fear..."

Watch, listen, and share your thoughts in the comments.

Summary:

The U.S. Congress openly criticized Nigeria’s judiciary, using Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention as a key example of the country’s declining rule of law. Lawmakers noted that despite the Court of Appeal striking out all charges against him in 2022 and the UN calling for his unconditional release, Kanu remains in solitary confinement with deteriorating health. They warned that Nigeria’s judicial defiance, political persecution, and attacks on Christians raise serious concerns about U.S. aid to the country.

Convicting on basis of threats is laughable

Terrorrism is a very serious issue, the culprits have to be brought to book

Acts are different from threats

The judgement on Kanus case is totally laughable

The fact that several courts ordered his release and the government kept him in defiance to court orders is enough to throw the prosecutor case file into dust bin

The fact that his home was violated by fed govt when he was under bail and several people killed by the government is another reason to dismiss the case, the government attempted to murder him and is now accusing him of terrorrism clearly null and void

The fact that he was kidnapped illegally in Kenya makes the whole case null and void

But Nigeria is a zoo so ....

its not only in Nigeria that corrupt politicians exist. We can see US politicians who have collected money from IPOB. his statements were word for word IPOB propaganda.

He said Kanu was ill. He said Kanu was denied counsel. he said his case was dismissed by the appeal court. Clearly he is IPOB sponsored. If he actually knew what is happenning, he would know kanu was the one who dismissed his lawyers, he would know Kanu was examined by the Nigerian medical association who certified him as healthy and I am almost certain the president of the NMA is an ibo man.

I will give IPOB credit, they pumped serious money into lobbying American politicians.

Terrorist given 20yrs MNK given life imprisonment take it or leave it APC is the sole sponsor of terrorism in Nigeria.
T!nubu, PMB, El-Rufai and the likes are ICC materials and Nigerians will get the shocker of their lives in a few months time when the US unveils the terrorists list and decide to take decisive actions on them

I think the Nigerian government have miscalculated; they are convinced that kanu indirectly has a hand in the genocide narrative sold to the US.(Propagated by BRGIE)

What they do not understand is: you can't use a black man as a bargaining tool or stop US military actions by mere theatrics.
