A lot of minister of defence around the world have no military background

Miseducated Nigerians forming educated but spewing ignonrance.

How many times do we tell these pea-brained fellows that a Minister's appointment is political and administrative, not technical.

Only the Minister of Justice that serves as the Attorney General, need to be someone legally equipped for the role to be played.

No other minister must be professionally qualified for the discipline the ministry is focused on.

And this is a global reality, but ignorant Nigerians continue to insist that a minister must be something beyond what it is designed to be.

As laughable as it sounds, that experience as Governor of a bandit ravaged state should have become a very handy tool kit to help the government face the problem squarely, instead it has become of no use.

The Defence minister is also a former Governor of Jigawa, both are in a position of authority over the military operations going on to combat terrorists that are wrongly addressed as bandits.

the present U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has a military background. He was commissioned as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army National Guard and served in active-duty deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other locations.

The Minister of State for Defence is not the Minister of Defence. The Minister of Defence is General Badaru.

As long as he hit his head on the ground five times daily, he is qualified. That is the criteria....

The security situation in Nigeria has improved significantly. Therefore, the defence minister should be commended instead of being lambasted

Not true. Pete Hegseth served in the U.S. military.

If we must criticise, let's do it constructively.

Min of defence does not need military background as he's not directly in charge of operational details. His main job is to manage the budget and provide leadership and overall strategic guidance to the armed forces.

He also represents the armed forces at federal executive council, the highest decision making body in the country, since in a democratic setting, it would be a anomaly to have a military person there.

As far as operational issues are involved, that's the job of the chiefs of army, navy and air force, under coordination of the CDS.

We have seen many military heads with no formal military training. What is the big deal about this?
