Lolz 😂 I will simply conclude with two pieces of timeless wisdom. As the saying goes: 'To be forewarned is to be forearmed.' And as the elders teach us, 'What an elder sees sitting, a child cannot see even from the top of the Iroko tree.' The warning has been given; I rest my case.

Thanking your boss for paying you for services you rendered seems awkward to me.

Your salary is not a gift. It’s not charity. It’s not a personal favour. You showed up for 30 days, dealing with stress, deadlines, pressure, sickness, unexpected tasks...etc, and all the wahala that comes with the job. Yet you still gave your best to keep the company moving. That is value. And value deserves compensation.

Sadly, a lot of Nigerians have been conditioned to see basic their rights as privileges. So instead of standing confidently on the fact that you earned your pay, they act like the boss did them a special favour by releasing the salary they already worked for.

Yes, you can be respectful, professional, and appreciative of good working conditions, but collecting your salary is not something you should feel indebted for. You’re not being blessed, you’re being paid what you deserve.

It’s time people started valuing their effort and understanding that compensation is a Right, not a privilege.
You get the point. Why should I thank you for my rights?? You ain’t dashing me the money for crying out loud. I help you in building your business with my time and effort and you still expect me to appreciate you for the pay. Some Nigerians and inferiority complex. That’s why we never get the full value of our job and keep getting underpaid.

Now tell me why such a staff won't be considered for promotion should the time for promotion comes?
He is lucky he doesn't work for me. The only way to get my approval and promotion is through excellence in the job.

Even though her action is commendable, we need to let go of such mentality as it doesn't work in saner climes and better organisation in Nigeria.

I find it hard to see why an employer will be expecting me to show appreciation for receiving a salary I toiled for.

Was the employer thanking me while I was doing the job.
Her action is NOT commendable at all. It's actually annoying, extremely unprofessional and absolutely reprehensible.

Imagine if every staff of UBA Plc start sending appreciation messages to Tony Elumelu every month end upon receiving salary.

. You won't understand....

If you had been jobless for years and you luckily land a job, especially when all hopes seems to be lost, only then you'll understand why this employee has chosen to appreciate his employer...
The only TRUE way to show your employer appreciation is to do your job well. Give your all and extra. That is the best form of appreciation. Sending text messages of appreciation upon receiving your salary is extremely unprofessional.

Then if such employer gives you a special gift in appreciation and as a reward for your dedication, you can send messages of appreciation as much as you want.

You can even copy the whole Bible and send to the employer if that will make you sleep well.

Do you know of the parable in the Bible of the three servants whose masters gave certain amounts of talents (money in those days) to hold while he went on a journey? It's not that related to this topic but you fit perfectly well on the servant that was given the least talent and what he did with it and his response to his master when he came back

I dislike offering verbal appreciation; I’d rather communicate through my work ethic. Compliments often get to people's heads, and they start believing they are doing you a favor. I prefer to let my results speak for me. If the employer is treating me well, he will see the gratitude in my productivity. However, if he starts misbehaving, he will notice the shift in my actions immediately.

What if the one that doubled it didn’t do that but only came with appreciation, what do you think the master would have done??

I don't know cos I am not the master.
I only learn from the master and the master always showed gratitude and gave thanks to the Father.

Across the five organizations I’ve worked for, I have never felt the need to express gratitude to my boss specifically for my salary. I maintain clear professional boundaries, sometimes intentionally avoiding greetings to prevent familiarity—a practice that all my superiors have ultimately respected.

In one instance, a colleague reported me for failing to greet my superior, but the manager’s response was decisive: 'As long as he is delivering results, I need his effort, not his greetings.' My employment has never been terminated.

When you consistently perform, your boss should be the one thanking you for a job well done. Offering unnecessary appreciation for your salary preaches low self-esteem and self-doubt; let your work ethic be your primary form of communication.

Did Jesus just show appreciation without work? Even when he wanted to feed 5000 people, he asked for bread. While he wanted to raise Lazarus, he fasted. Show me one great miracle that wasn’t accompanied with good work and winning of souls. We just love lifting Bible verses without understanding the underlying context.

Lol 😂 I’m very sure you do that. I would advise you to work on improving your professional standing, as that behavior is usually characteristic of those in menial or low-level roles who feel they are receiving a favor from their employer. You wouldn't expect an executive manager to exhibit that kind of excessive gratitude; at that level, it comes across as irritating and inappropriate.

If you don’t work well and you show gratitude, you’re cunning and manipulative. Showing gratitude for what is yours?

Salary is payment. Your employer takes your time, energy and attention to build his company. He makes 100 percent gain per worker and he pays them 10 percent. For the upkeep and progress of the company, he removes 40 percent per worker and goes home with 50 percent of your time and energy and sometimes without pension for all the years you’ve spent and you tell him ‘ thank you’ undecided

We really need to change our orientation in this country.

We are seamen and we don't do such thing to our captain or chief engineer but for fellas in other circles who find themselves in certain circumstances and most likely under a one man show, there's absolutely nothing wrong about it...

huh

So I was having this discussion with some old time friends. For some weird reason, we ended up discussing office work, something became prominent. Success at work place is not solely depended on personal abilities.

Most times, it's dependent on doing your home work and teamwork.

During office politics, you realise that who you know is more important than what you know.

How to relate with others and kick it with them determines your progress.

Your ability to communicate extensively is sure to guarantee you open doors.

I have seen guys with limited skills progress in life and talented guys botch things up
You have said it all.
Succinctly put.
Well said.

Reason, I go to every length to see my children do well with "communication".
Most times, communication and people skill trumps ability.

Yes there is a place for SKILL ooh.
This can not be neglected too.

A combination of these 3 will take one very very far.

You see tinz like that in a one man biz in Nigeria
