Any serious and responsible FG should have audited this Defence budget from the time the insurgency began. This is one one reasons the war on BH can never end . I'm sure this budget may Also be funding insurgency secretly because as long as the war on BH persist, huge budget will keep coming. This is not about changing Service Chiefs. Any incoming Service Chief is already part of the system and knows how to keep lubricating it. I'm sure there's a conspiracy theory waiting to be uncovered if the Auditor General and EFCC are courageous enough to investigate the spending of this budgeting because I cant rap my head round how a responsible FG will be comfortable with spending this huge amount yearly without results- except they're complicit too |

Neoteny:I think the FG is in on it. They're just to scared to talk. In most area in Lagos you'll find a military officer erecting a mansion. There's one in my area too. No responsible FG should be comfortable spending such amount yearly and not getting results and still keep spending |

Sirjamo:You cannot compare United States budget to Nigeria. There are three States in US that are richer than France. There was a year the published budget of University of California was more than that of Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is not Defence and Police Budget. The problem of Nigeria was created by Nnamdi Azikiwe. It is a foundation problem. Three years ago coming out of Foursquare Gospel Church Camp Ajebo, Ogun State on Lagos Ibadan Expressway early in the morning I saw people trekking from Ogunmakin area to Ajebo area. Intentionally, I spent about two hours to profile their movements. Last year, I did the same. This year again I did the same. Without being told and without being fooled you will know that Forests in that area are not saved from Bandits. This may be applicable to other Forests in the South West. As it is, there is nothing the Security Agencies can do about it. It is not about Budget or about recruiting 1 million people into the Armed Forces and Police. It is beyond that. During Jonathan regime OBASANJO had meeting with Boko Haram leaders in Bornu. We have seen Northern leaders having Peace meetings with Bandits . Individuals and Government agencies have paid ransom to kidnappers. In 2018 when Dapchi Girls were abducted, the governor of Yobe State Ibrahim Geidam said the Soldiers that were stationed in that area left few hours before the abduction took place. As at that time, the statement was almost similar to that of Chibok Girls abduction. Now, when I heard the Kebbi State Governor speaking few days ago I was confused because the situation looked similar to that of Dapchi School girls abduction. He said the Soldiers that were invited to protect them left few hours before the abduction took place. I became confused because nobody made references to Dapchi School girls abduction scenario. It was a video film replay and the entire Nigerians pretended as if they don't know what is happening. The recent wave of terrorism is not fueled by US threat as being speculated in some quarters. I have my reservations and personal opinion about it. Events in Nigeria is very easy to discern by a very intelligent and objective person. When a man appointed to make a difference was busy celebrating the mentorship and friendship of his former Boss and he did that twice within two years, then the Chairman of the company that appointed him should know two Critical Hidden things; firstly, he can never get a different result, secondly, he is celebrating his former Boss because his success or failure is dependent on his former Boss because of the intricacies of the networking of his former Boss to the problems of the organization. That is very serious. Changing in the management structure can be very devastating and required the Chairman and board members to hold the bull by the horns and fight back. Pumping more money (Defence Budget) into the organization cannot yield any result. The people you are budgeting to fight are within you. They are having meetings with the Elites and Elders openly. A plane can take off from Nigeria to Afghanistan and land at Iran . Back to where I began, if youths or vigilantes or local security operators challenge those prospective bandits in South West Forests their Elites and Elders would say they are hunters on exploration to South West and as Nigerians they have right to live anywhere in Nigeria. The problem is not budget. |

Sirjamo:G0@t, the problem isn't about the budget, but about govt's lack of will to fight the j!hadsts in order not to fall out with the hausa/fulanis. This lack of will has also made it impossible to address the compromise and betrayals in the military. |

No comment. There is no detail here. This is not a budget, just a list. The basic definition of budget is 'the estimate of income and expenditure over a set period of time' The armed forces is a security service so is not income generating by nature but the peace and security it provides has a quantifiable value which is necessary to assess when making budgets in relating to the expenditure side of things. However that of Nigeria continues to remain opaque Very few know the details of how the armed forces spends it's resources, how much it allocates to various aspects of administration and operations. So no one really knows how much this insurgency has cost the country over the years and how much the war against banditry is costing the country right now. And if costs cannot be properly assessed then policy, planning, strategies, etc to contain and solve all the insecurity issues bedeviling this country cannot be done. The US knows how much it spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. The American public knows how much it costs to keep an aircraft carrier stationed in the Caribbean per day. And on this basis the people decide what is worth it or not. |

Minjim:This also. The fact is, the military is not completely under the control of the government. And when I mean control, right down to the nuts and bolts of the military institutions. And like I said a few days ago the reason is simple. Civilian administrations, one after the other have refused or failed to restructure the country in order to dissolve it's internal boundaries and fault lines but rather accentuated them in order to obtain one form of advantage or the other over their competition. So with the recurring distrust in the civil space the military is covertly and overtly seen as the unbiased arbiter of last resort. The glue that holds this country together. In a nutshell (no matter how painful this may sound) politicians by and large have not earned the respect to question the military. This situation is the black hole into which a lot of suspicions surrounding the festering insecurity situation revolves. |

mrvitalis:Out of the lot I have read so far, you are the most sensible. Poverty and a lack of management knowledge has made the average Nigerian youth weird. When you mention "one big amount of money" in an organization, they imagine it is in one big "Ghana must go" bag and someone will just carry it to your house. They have never run businesses or organizations and never used a cashflow forecast to see that "profit" is often drained off by recurrent costs to sustain the organization. They are either employees, hustlers (calling themselves professionals) or own 1-man businesses in shops. Although I doubt your (or my) comment would educate anybody here, but it's so refreshing to hear people with managerial leanings have not fully died out. God bless. |

grandstar:For me, your ideas are sound and great. But that might be because I run a company with multiple branches and that's what I do; pay salaries and incentivize like crazy. Developed nations pay by the hour which forces you to make each hour spent productive. In Nigeria/Africa, we pay every worker by the month. That's why we have laziness as a culture. So, I support you 100%. This is exactly what Pastor Adeboye suggested to Buhari back then concerning his war leaders. "Hire, give targets, assess, reward or disengage." But then, which leader, in Nigeria, wants to operate on targets? Even average workers will say "I no dey work by targets oo. Just pay me my salary". It is well, I guess. |

The Nigeria Police Force is the number one guarantor of Peace and Free and fair elections in Nigeria. The Challenges of Police must be fully addressed for Nigeria to have peace. I know how much we hate them, but without Proper functioning Police Force, there can never be a democracy. Retrain, equip and Reenergize Nigeria Police so that Soldiers can be free to soldier. All Nigerians should be on-board with this. Only Police can check mate elections excesses, you can't rig election without Police. Imagine a confident Police Force that will stand on Business and Say No. Our society will be so much better. We have paid way too much attention to the military while neglecting the Police. The Politician know this that's why they keep the Police Poor and undertrained. The Citizens must Push for the Revitalization of Police so they can serve not only the few but the whole of Nigeria. professorPABX:So in summary. You're saying the northern elites and government officials are complicit in the region insecurity? My question to you is, what are the chances that every government and northern elites since the time of Jonathan will be in bed with terrorists? Boko haram for example have seen 4 presidents and 40 service chiefs. Are you telling me that all those presidents and service chiefs love Boko haram? Are you telling me that 40 service chiefs over the period of 15 years are all Boko haram and Bandits sympathisers? Are you telling me that all of them are incompetent? |

I see some comments emphasising the insufficiency of the budget. Agreed, but you can't just throw money at problems and expect them to go away. Nigeria has a competence problem....and an accountability and transparency problem. These are the core issues, and financial inadequacy is the very least of it. Quadruple this defence budget and what you will get is more generals now affording to buy their own private jets and even more mansions in Nigeria and abroad. And of course maintaining a bigger harem of an ever increasing number of supple breasted, nubile Nigerian beauties. In other words, increasing the defence budget would merely lead to a proportional increase in embezzlement, mismanagement and appetite for misappropriation by the lousy characters involved in the disbursement and implementation of the budget. Not to mention that there is also a likelihood that a sizable portion of the budget will go to directly or indirectly funding the terrorists and bandits in question: the WW2 era weapons and accessories the military manages to buy from the allocated budget will end up in the hands of the terrorists - either via cowardly abandonment during ambushes or encounters between the terrorists and the military, or by direct reallocation by compromised elements within the military. As it stands now, it is a hopeless case. There is no practicable solution. The only thing that will work is to outsource the task to either foreign mercenaries or to foreign powers such as the US. The Nigerian military as currently constituted is a totally lost cause, a drain pipe and a completely useless dissipation of time, energy, and resources. |

Sirjamo:I will not answer your questions because people reading it know the answer. On November 12, 2025 on my postings on nairaland on Altercations between WIKE and the Officer I said the altercations revealed a hidden secret which shows that the battle against Terrorism and Banditry would be very difficult to win. It is also on one other Social Media platform. Few days later, coincidentally, everything skyrocketted. Sahel Region is the headquarters of Banditry and Terrorism in SubSahara Africa. Another Very Important Information came from Pa Tanko Yakassai few years ago during OBASANJO Government. He said the NORTH should strengthen their relationship with the Sahel Region. He said Sahel Region Supported Nigeria during the Civil War and that Nigeria is yet to reward them back for their assistance. Nigeria problem was caused by Nnamdi Azikiwe. Nigeria problem is the foundation. The Northern Elites and Elders rejection of Military Base in Nigeria is the Overall Request of the Sahel Region. Nigeria problem is easy to discern by a very intelligent and objective person. The Sahel Region never wanted a US Military Base. When a plane departed Nigeria for Afghanistan and landed in IRAN it was not detected by Nigeria NCAA or Intelligence Agencies but by Foreign Intelligence monitoring. Firstly, why should a plane depart Nigeria for Afghanistan? Rather than budgeting 50% of our Revenue and debts on Security and recruiting 1 million people into Army and the Police let the US Military Base be established in Rivers State and Oyo State (Oke-Ogun , Sunday Igboho area). The US Marine should be in Rivers State while the US Army and Airfoce should be at Oke- Ogun, Oyo State. I will keep the second solution to myself. I remain in deep prayers and meditation for the success of the CDS and COAS in this new appointments. God will help them and give them Victory in Jesus Name, Amen. |

jiggyman:Don't mind him. I drew his attention to the budget of University of California few years back that was more than Nigeria's budget. There are agencies in US that made more than Nigeria is making from CRUDE OIL sales. The present problem is not budget. There was a time over 200 people were abducted in Niger State. An Air force plane took off and developed fault and crashed. After negotiation, they were released. Over 200 people wore the same clothes sew by Tailors within 24 hours. When they were abducted and taken away, no checkpoints. Those who negotiated with the Bandits know the Bandits. They spent over $400 million to buy fighter jets in 2018 from US which was delivered in 2021 and limited to North East operations. Now, the US said don't buy anything for now, let us come to build Military Base here. It is very easy to spend on Defence after a thorough extraction of Intelligence Report by US Military. |
