I just got called "careless" by a client at 6:14 am.

Here's how it goes—

I went for a networking event some weeks ago where I sat next to a lady who'd link me with a client.

After a few feeling-out chats and calls, she hooked me up with an academic article writing job. It was about mHSPC, PSA, and rPFS (apologies to those unfamiliar with medical terms).

It came with decent pay—matter of fact, I'd already identified a decent pair of shoes I was going to reward myself with after completing the job.

The data analyst hired successfully analyzed the clinical trials needed for the article.

Few days later, I began writing.

Chapters 1 through 3 went successfully without a hitch.

But then came a little snag: I discovered Chapter 4 was missing something very important.

I found there was no explicit information comparing the analysis between PSA and rPFS. They'd been analyzed separately but not directly placed against each other.

Now, for context, I had a deadline breathing down my neck. Also, this was a first time client (I'll admit I was afraid of looking like an amateur).

So I did the dumb thing and quietly shifted the paper's angle to match the available information. I grabbed some new references and rewrote everything from scratch in 40 frantic hours.

I submitted two minutes after the agreed deadline, but I felt like a genius.

The end result?

Client was furious. Called my writing careless—

My eyes saw red. My mind went into fight or flight mode. I chose to fight.

I defended my actions. I told the client to reach out to the data analyst and make him complete his job.

No dice.

Now, I'm gonna have to rewrite the whole paper AGAIN or risk losing the second half of my payment and the client relationship.

For the sake of my peace of mind, I decided I'll write up the missing section of the analysis under the limitations of the study, which I should have done earlier.

I need to continue working on this now, but my brain is seriously revolting at the idea of doing all of that intense focus work all over again.
