US PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA’S FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

The United States has affirmed its commitment to partnering with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, after a high-level security meeting at the Pentagon on November 20.

The meeting, hosted by Pete Hegseth, US secretary of war, was attended by a delegation of security leaders from Nigeria led by Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser (NSA).

Their meeting took place the same day US congress deliberated on allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria.

According to a readout issued by Sean Parnell, assistant to the US secretary of war for public affairs, both countries discussed ways to make “tangible progress on stopping violence against Christians in Nigeria and combatting West African jihadist terrorist groups”.

“Secretary Hegseth emphasized the need for Nigeria to demonstrate commitment and take both urgent and enduring action to stop violence against Christians and conveyed the Department’s desire to work by, with, and through Nigeria to deter and degrade terrorists that threaten the United States,” the statement reads.

US President Donald Trump had threatened to instruct the department of war to send troops into Nigeria with “guns-a-blazing” to “wipe out the Islamic Terrorists” he said were killing Christians.

Ribadu, on the directives of President Bola Tinubu, led a high-level delegation to the US on the matter.

The delegation comprised Bianca Ojukwu, minister of state for foreign affairs; Kayode Egbetokun, inspector general of police (IGP); Lateef Fagbemi, attorney general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice; and Olufemi Oluyede, chief of defence staff (CDS).

The team had also met with Riley Moore, a member of the US house of representatives, in Washington.

Exactly! ... lots of people here can't see past their nose. They always want something in return ... except if it's Israel ....which makes demands. But how can the US even help to defeat terrorists when the ones they are giving the help are the ones fueling the terrorism? This FG is not committed to end the attacks and killings ... it in fact encourages it by paying ransom and .... when the perpetrators are caught...they are rewarded with skill training with pay then set loose back in society. Is no way the US can make a dent ...the very problem they had with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

We can continue to be dragged backward again. If they want to be down, they can be there permanently. Nigeria is not about them alone, it’s for everyone and if they don’t want to understand that concept, everyone should go their separate ways.

The Northern Nigeria is really pushing us back. They create these insurgences just for their selfish political reason and they always unleash it to its peak whenever a Southerner is in government. We can continue to be dragged backward again. If they want to be down, they can be there permanently. Nigeria is not about them alone, it’s for everyone and if they don’t want to understand that concept, everyone should go their separate ways.

Their religion is the problem. The people in the North are good but they tend to push it with their religion.
They can't coexist with anyone until they dominate.
South Sudanese still thank God till tomorrow for finally breaking out of that domination. It's not funny.
Need I mention,they were also amalgamated like Nigeria by the British colonial powers.

I hope Nigerians gets their freedom soon. It's suffocating!

This is a good development because there is the international dimension to this security problem . Nigeria should be the big brother who should be policing West and Central Africa
