The architectural transformation of this Anglican edifice on the Marina really has a unique history. The current church house is totally different from what is in the first picture Can't believe the landscaping to widen the land and push the ocean further into the harbour was this enormous. |

Racoon:There's now a bus garage, bridge, metroline and jetty between the cathedral, Broad street and the atlantic ocean today. |

FreeStuffsNG:Absolutely correct! What an incredible transformation of that area over the years |
| Re: CMS House Broad Street: A Forgotten Landmark Of Colonial Lagos by Throwback: 9:36pm On Nov 23, 2025 |
FreeStuffsNG:It is not an ocean but a lagoon, that is why it is still and without waves. Expansion of the little parcel of land between the Marina and the lagoon effectively created a new Marina that was not so named, and made the current Marina a false description. Broad Street is behind the cathedral, hence behind the Marina. |

Throwback:Good points. In the past, I always think it's a Lagoon but since changed my mind. Lagoons don't have blue colour. It's not Lagoon but Atlantic Ocean. The water on that side is not so far away from where the Lagos lagoon empties into the Atlantic( around Independencebridge). However, it's blue in colour. Don't you think the waves are limited because it is a channel built to limit the waves. It you look at around the independence bridge where the Lagos Lagoon meets the Atlantic Ocean, you will see the waves regulated by barriers that eventually direct the mixed waters towards Marina. Please look at that waters again next to the boat jetty next to the Military mess. Note the colour, it's not blue but by Marina side, it has turned blue. So the Atlantic Ocean becomes dominant. |

Wow, it’s wild how much of Lagos’s history is just disappearing before our eyes. Imagine walking Broad Street today and hardly recognizing that it once had buildings like CMS House — a mix of Gothic elegance and local adaptation. Makes you wonder: how many more “forgotten landmarks” are lost to time, and what does that say about how we value our own history ![]() |

We don't have a culture of preserving things. That house should have been a tourist attraction if it was preserved. |

How old is Tinubu that he's claiming to develop and owning Lagos? Not even family history trace can be found then. |

Wao..and all this while I thought CMS meant Catholic mission school! They brought western education and Christianity and many things we have today are a beautiful testament of their efforts...unlike some that came with swords and unkempt biabia... today they are still spilling blood everywhere they go Nice one |

Sirleo05:It is pictures like this that normally expose the man Tinubu as a Fraud.. Lagos was already built and developed before he came to power. |

FreeStuffsNG:It was a Reclamation work. I once saw an old picture of that Cathedral before the Reclamation work and the shoreline was just about 10m-15m. I was like wow. |

FreeStuffsNG:Very true. The point at which you can distinctfly see the blueish tint as against the grayish color of the Lagoon is the point they met though further down you could see the Artificial wave breaker built to at least limit the waves from the Atlantic. |
