bixton:Google is your friend. The military created unproductive states that have given rise to Islamist insurgency and a space that can't be governed. There is no business breaking Kano into three new states. Before it became a state in Nigeria, Adamawa was a subordinate kingdom of the Sultanate of Sokoto, which also included much of northern Cameroon. The rulers bear the title of emir ("lamido" in the local language, Fulfulde).[13] |

grandstar:^^^ Tinubu was part of that mess from the very beginning. How do you mean "cleaning it up"? BAT is still borrowing heavily to finance recurrent spending. He is on course to record another deficit this year (as we can expect for his entire tenure in office). He has done absolutely nothing about public sector reform. He is still maintaining a costly, extremely wasteful public expenditure profile - just like Buhari before him. Where is the clean up? ![]() grandstar:^^^ It is still junk. Or to use the more polite term: "speculative grade". ![]() We are still 2 years away from federal elections but BAT has already started the politicking. You can be sure the very modest economic gains made by his administration will be eroded when the usual third world politicking practices take off - and BAT starts trying to placate vested political interests. We'll see how clean things really are then. It won't be long now. |

Fujiyama:I think the people pushing posts like this to the front page are trying to guage nairaland perception of abacha so they will know how to whitewash the mf. Majority of those who felt the brunt of his dangerous regime are dying so the project now is to lie to the younger generation that abacha was a hero and maybe compare him with Ibrahim Traore (of Burkina Faso, for those that don't know). dem fit even cook say na abacha fight for nigeria independence, with the kind of things these liars say, I can not put it past them. I admire their effort. they should keep trying to repackage abacha for us, maybe one day they will succeed. |

legionISproteus:The said Sanusi was smuggled out or so. Abacha would have executed the killers of Deborah. Man was evil, but he was nowhere near a religious fanatic. |

legionISproteus:When did I ever glorify any past military dictator? The only military ruler I have ever wrote in defense of was Gowon and it was always against the heap of lies and insults directed by the sore losers. Pls show me one post or topic that I have made that wasn't objective and backed with facts. |

Zocalite:i also do not remember the name of the group, but remember he did not make the initiative by himself. as a military man, he was acting under orders so give credit to his oga that gave him that order because the buhari we all know would have given the terrorist maximum backing if he was to make that call. i am glad he had 8 full years to show his true color if not some people would be telling us buhari is the man that would have wiped nigeria terrorist groups completely. |

sulaak:1.Clamor for state creation started under the first republic, that is why we had the midwest region created (which became bendel, and which lasted till 1991 2.Clamor was from minority tribes who felt oppressed by the majority tribes in the three original regions. 3.Regions were not productive, and had they lasted till today, they would be described as being unproductive because of the resource curse. As many researchers have pointed out, countries that use brain power are richer than countries that sell cocoa, cotton, palm oil, crude oil, metals, and so forth (unless the population of the resource rich country is tiny enough ). Infact, that is why most subsaharan african countries are broke and poor. (By productive I mean being able to produce industrial goods that are exportable. No country in Africa gets rich from selling raw materials and so forth. If it was so, by now Nigeria would be like USA. ) 4.If you want the states to be profitable, start with taxation. But Nigerians don't like paying tax at all, even as at 2019, only 30% of Nigerians paid taxes to state and federal governments. I doubt anything would have changed with 'regions'. Government now claims it is 44%, but even then tax to gdp is low at less than 10% up till today. Also, many states started well by investing in education. But when someone graduates and finds no jobs because imports and poor electricity means that the ability of our economy to generate jobs (poor electticity being caused by the same issues with poor tax revenue)..is broken. All we got is the civil service, which can't absorb everyone 5.Regions were flawed, very flawed. The Igbo pogrom was a good example of how flawed, when you have a regional police that cannot do anything. Why there has been no repeat is due to our police having been federalized. Throroughly. Nigeria's problem is that people and government think that economy is a cake that can be shared and that after sharing e go regenerate every night. That's a fairytale, not true economics. And because of that we end up with leaders like buhari, gej, tinubu, and company whose job is to share money, not do serious governing. And why we have so many idle youth who end up in arms... |

Kingosytex:Sanusi was pardoned by Abacha after being lobbied by several Emirs including Ado Bayero. Sanusi was then released and forced to go into exile in Sudan. The north will always find a way to protect their own even before Abacha Sanusi's co-defenders were all executed by hanging . |

Sometimes we dont know what truly transpired except what we are been fed by media outlets. Alot of reasons why he did all that we thought he did & might be for a genuine good reasons, but the world will paint you as evil as long as you are not doing their bidding. GABRIEL6036: |

As bad as this guy was, he stabilized the economy, reduced inflation from 53% inherited from IBB to 8%. Fuel was 11 naira per litre untill he died and there were no scarcity cos all the refineries were working Security was top notch & he did all these with different sanctions. If evil abacha could do good, these politicians have no excuse except for being worse than evil |
