The Special Protection Unit (SPU) in the police has ordered all officers attached to VIPs and beats nationwide to return “back to base”.

On November 23, President Bola Tinubu ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to VIPs across the country.

In a memo signed by Neji Veronica, commanding officer of the SPU Base 16 in Lagos, and shared by the presidency on X, all affected officers were instructed to return before the close of business on November 24.

The commanding officer said the order is effective immediately and must be strictly complied with.

I think government is serious this time

But For proper compliance, the public should be involved in monitoring VIPs and report back to the police because this is Nigeria where some people flout government laws everyday, Police should give out their telephone numbers to Nigerians

The main duties of police is to maintain law and order in the society,While the military main function is to protect the country from terrorists and Bandits. Deploying police officers attached to VIPS is just a waste of time and it won't achieve anything.

I'd bet my last buck they've made zero arrangement to protect the affected VIPs. Those who face credible threats among them, those who have to travel to dangerous areas for business, foreign investors and all (the same they say they've been chasing), will likely go to bed exposed this evening. That's governance around here.

They'll still go back though.

I somewhat agree with you but let's wait to see what their intent is because one thing I have learnt in this government is the ability to politicize everything to score cheap points. So, let us see the direction in which this will go.

The number of VIP in this country cannot less than 100,000 people, and some have 2 or 3 police men attached to them. We are talking about 100,000 or more policemen who are guiding just 100,000 citizens, making over 200m others vulnerable to social vices and criminality.

I already knew about it since yesterday that the end has come for police carry women hand bags in the name VIP or for a yahoo criminal carrying police escort.

Let everybody who want security to go and hire private security guard and this will teach our politician a lesson and wake them up and support the fed govt in the fight against insecurity because many of them don't care about Nigerians in as far they are protected now they are more venerable to insecurity and they will wake up now by force by fire orelse na their private guard go set ddem up.
