Many people don’t know this, but one background setting drains data more than anything else on Android phones.
Go to:
Settings → Network → Data Saver,
and turn it on.
It stops apps from using your data silently.

If you want more settings that save data daily, reply “show me.”

Not available for iPhone users undecided

For the iPhone gang, here are some deep secrets to stop data burning: First, switching off your Background App Refresh helps a lot, but just know you'll miss plenty notifications. Second, if you really want to micro-manage the data, switch on Downtime/Focus Mode and only select the specific few apps you want running.

If you like off data or even off your phone any day you switch it on , you'll discover Airtel do not care about the status of your phone before deducting data

Exactly. I sell data, and I hear this complaint a lot. From your experience, which setting made the biggest difference for you? I want to compare it with what I already know.

You’re right, Airtel can be aggressive with background deductions.
But that’s exactly why fine-tuning internal phone settings helps — it reduces how often apps pull data without your notice.
Which phone are you using? Some models have extra hidden data controls.
airtel is a criminal network
no data saver can beat its illegal deductions. even if your phone is off for days, theh will still be deducting

this will only work well on mtn and others

True, Airtel has its own issues — no argument there.
But phone-level data permissions still matter. If the device isn’t allowed to request data, the network has nothing to deduct.

Which phone are you using? Different models have different hidden data-control layers.
i use battery saver mode on android to save data, only few selected apps work, location and background data off too, and the rest are totally and completely snoozing.

These are the top 3 hidden data drainers I see most often:

1. Autoplay on Instagram/TikTok

2. App updates running automatically

3. Status media auto-download

If you want the step-by-step fix for each one, reply “fix it.”

I understand the frustration — Airtel’s deductions can be annoying.

But even with that, tightening phone-side controls still reduces background leaks a lot.
No setting can fix a network’s flaws completely, but it helps you limit the damage.

If MTN works better for you, that’s valid too.

“S10e is good, but Samsung phones pull background data heavily by default.

Let’s start with the basics — go to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile Data Usage and restrict background data for the top-consuming apps.

Check that first and tell me what apps are topping the list.
