Insecurity: If Government Can't Save Us, We Have Right To Call On International Community – Former President Obasanjo.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Nigerians have the right to seek help from the international community if the government fails in its constitutional duty to protect them.

Obasanjo stated this during the 2025 Plateau Unity Christmas Carol, held at the Ten Commandments Altar in Jos, where he attended as a special guest on the invitation of the Plateau State Government.

“If our government cannot do it, we have the right to call on the international community to do for us what our government cannot do, and we should have no apology for that,” he said.

According to him, with modern technology, including satellites and drones, criminals should not have the freedom to commit crimes and disappear.

“Why are we apologising? Why are we negotiating? The government must stop the killing of Nigerians. We are being killed, we are tired, and we want the killing to stop,” he added.

The former president also expressed concern over the rising wave of insecurity across the country.

You're taking the peacefulness of millions of Nigerians for granted, because if this level of insecurity happened in many other countries I know, by now, there would've been hundreds of armed militia groups rise up in defense of their people and seize control of different parts of the country.

For your information, that was the case in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Central African Republic, DRC Congo etc. Channel your energy towards pushing government to act fast before things get out of hand.
