The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced enforcement actions on 1,095 properties in Abuja following the recent revocation of their titles over failure to settle statutory land charges.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the development on Friday.

According to the statement, the affected properties are located in prime districts of the Federal Capital City (FCC), including Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse.

Of the total affected properties, 835 were revoked for defaulting on ground rent payments, while 260 others violated land use conversion requirements and other related penalties.

The administration said it had issued several public notices between May and November 2025 through national newspapers, television stations, and online platforms, urging property holders to clear their outstanding liabilities or risk forfeiture.

“Despite the several publications/public notices made by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in some national dailies, online platforms, and television stations requesting defaulters to settle their financial obligations/liabilities to the FCTA—namely Ground Rent, Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) Bill, Penalty/Violation Fee, and Land Use Conversion Fee—the underlisted property holders have failed to comply,” the statement read.

It added that such failure contravenes Section 28, Subsections 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, as well as the terms and conditions of the respective Rights of Occupancy.

The minister approved the commencement of enforcement after the expiration of a final 14-day grace period on November 25, 2025.

Wike go face some very serious push back on this one. The landlords we are talking about here are not pushovers o.
These are not Gwari aboriginals wey una dey use play 10-10. To revoke their titles go hard. Why not agree on instalment payment spread over a period of time instead of revoking titles. Afterall the idea is for government to recover their dues?

I remember in May when that notice first came out. The popular Rita Lori in Abuja and her kids had to cry out because according to them, their father has settled everything regarding that land since 1984. That's long before computer digitalisation of records became a thing. Paper records by civil servants can easily get misplaced.

There is a reason why even El-Rufai who as FCT minister was more brazen than Wike didn't just go about revoking titles. Wike said he put out notices but the owners of the properties refused to respond and pay up. I don't know what reasons they have.

Wike is hurt and smarting from his public humiliation by that naval officer. He is transferring aggression on anyone who has fallen short of the requirements to own land in the FCT. I don't blame him. I blame those who have fallen into his trap.

Wike is a bundle of a performer and a controversy, in my personal opinion he is the best minister the FCT has been blessed with in a while because of his unmatched infrastructure development in such a short span of time, however rumors are flying around about his land grabbing antics and that's behavior is almost cancelling out his laudable performances

Government meant to protect lives and properties yet government is gambling with lives in the hands of bandits and forcefully robbing citizens of their properties.

See senators and the president negotiating with terrirost who kills Nigerian citizens, abduct them, make so many indigens and villagers homes and displaced, being sympathize by the government.

Then on the other hand wike and other governor's like the one located in lagos grabbing lands and demolishing people's sweat and money they used years to rebuild.

Some are even retired ,. No sympathy of where the will start from, where they next meal will come from, who will give them a roof over their head...
