Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo says he is willing to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the state during the 2027 presidential election.

the governor declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) now dominates Edo’s political landscape and faces “no real opposition” ahead of the next general polls.

Okpebholo said Tinubu’s rising popularity in the state, combined with his own early initiatives in office, has solidified the APC’s position. He cited recent bye-election results in Esan as proof of the party’s growing strength, insisting that Edo residents “will thank Asiwaju with their votes”.

His words: “Asiwaju is even more popular than me here now because Edo people already know that what I’m doing is because of Asiwaju’s impact.

“You will see the kind of result that will come out from here because there’s no opposition in Edo.

“Did you see the bye-election? We’ve never produced the kind of results we produced in Esan. The Esan and Edo people have not even told Asiwaju thank you, and how will they? It’s going to be the votes.

“Everybody is for Asiwaju. The people will thank him with their votes. If he does not win, I’d resign,” Okpebholo added.

In a free democracy such statement is unspoken.

Meanwhile he has not made any statements concerning the security of Edo people.

To God be the glory. You have said it and so be it. Tinubu has already lost 2027 and your dealings amount to resigning. A Governor who fails to deliver has already resigned as the second term won't be secured. Tinubu bad government has already earned him an irredeemable defeat. So, so be it.

He shouldn't wait until then. He should tender his resignation now so that a more capable individual, with the competence to govern properly and the ability to understand the figures in the state budget he presents can take over.


Okpebholo has consistently shown that he lacks what it takes to govern a state like Edo State.

Why are wailers crying as usual anyways for someone that believes in himself and his capacity to deliver whatever he put is mind to achieve. Wetin come be the problem of those crying everywhere up there and prospectively below? If you don't believe in yourself or in other people so you expect everyone to be like you.

The media should step up to its job. They are the 4th estate. You need to make these guys uncomfortable so they can do their job or else, we'll get to that very bad position for khaki boys to come inside. Look at the Senate, in the past, we used to look up to them to challenge FG/states and stand up for masses. Look at what we have today. The judiciary is already going too.
