ADC Picks Dr. Najeem Salaam as Osun 2026 Governorship Candidate After Lagos Decision

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election, following a decisive vote held in Lagos on Friday.

The party’s apex leadership, after a closed-door deliberation, voted in favour of the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, thereby edging out fellow contender Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government.

According to party insiders, the Lagos meeting was convened to settle lingering divisions within the ADC and produce a single, consensus-backed candidate ahead of the 2026 polls.

The decision ultimately swung in Dr. Salaam’s favour, marking a significant shift in internal party dynamics.

Although Adeoti lost the bid, party stakeholders have urged both camps to maintain unity as the ADC prepares to confront a competitive political field in the coming months.

Rt. Hon. Najeem Salam, former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, reportedly emerges Governorship Candidate of the ADC in Osun.

According to insider sources, he defeated two other aspirants - former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, and former Osun West Senator, Adelere Oriolowo - in a primary conducted within the Apex Committee.

Salam polled 11 votes against Adeoti (3 votes) and Oriolowo (1 vote).
