Pakute:Which coup? When the sitting president invited them to take over. So one man can deceive a whole organisation? Well I'm not surprised |

After the suspension, what next? The AU, just like ECOWAS, is a lame duck. They do nothing while sit-tight African presidents manipulate the electoral process engaging in grab it, snatch it, and run away with it tactics to perpetuate themselves in office for life, only to wake up from their slumber to issue suspensions and sanctions. |

When Tinubu was suspending Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, wailers were screaming all over the place. Now another people with sense are suspending Guinea Bissau, but wailers have kept mute just because it wasn't Tinubu doing it. Tinubu has set a precedent and others behind him are upholding the standard. This will serve as a warning to other military tadpoles planing a coup in Africa. |

Both African union and ecowas do not fight to establish true democracy with true democratic norms in Africa where the peoples votes count and where political office holders are held accountable to the people but when a coup happens they condemn it. The sad Fact However is recent coups in Africa have been supported by the citizens and masses which only shows a failure in Africa's style of democracy and poor governance practices.. If Africa union and ecowas do not work to improve and establish true democracy in Africa they will become redundant and obsolete very soon. In Tanzania the criminal so called democtratic president ordered the shooting and killing of thousands of unarmed protesters in Broad daylight who were protesting highly questionable election. Where was African union and ecowas then? ![]() |

Since AU and ECOWAS oppose the coup, it tells me the coupist must mean well for the country. For that reason I support the coup. I suspect that the reason some are saying that the deposed president invited the military to take over, may just be because they wish to make the military regime to not gain support and trust of the people.🤔 Even if it turns out to be true that the military were invited to take over, it may still have been done in the best interest of the country. So I am supporting this coup regardless because I know AU only opposes coups that are in the best interest of the countries. |

What unfolded in Guinea-Bissau was a stark subversion of democracy, constituting a soft coup or an unconstitutional seizure of power orchestrated by a sitting president. Faced with electoral defeat or term limits, the president refused to concede power and transfer authority to the legitimately elected civilian government. Instead, he manipulated the political landscape by colluding with military allies, effectively handing control to them under the guise of stability or transition. This maneuver was a calculated strategy to bypass the will of the people, allowing the ousted president and his inner circle to retain influence, shield themselves from accountability for corruption and human rights abuses, and perpetuate their grip on the nation's resources. By dismantling democratic institutions and replacing them with martial influence, this act not only betrayed the citizens' vote but also entrenched a cycle of impunity, ensuring that the wrongs committed against the populace would remain unaddressed and unpunished, making it a profound injustice rather than a legitimate political process. Furthermore, this dangerous playbook of undermining democratic will bears a striking resemblance to the political maneuvering employed by President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria's Rivers State, where the unsettling of a duly elected governor, while not involving an active military handover, created a similar vacuum ripe for undemocratic control. The imposition of a state of emergency a tool meant for genuine security crises becomes a thinly veiled tactic for removing an elected official and replacing them with a compliant administrator, effectively nullifying the people's vote. The profound repercussion and ultimate hypocrisy of such an act is highlighted by the fact that this "emergency" power is never deployed in states where the federal government has political allies, despite those states often facing far more severe and tangible security threats. This selective application exposes the maneuver not as a legitimate security measure, but as a political weapon, eroding public trust and establishing a perilous precedent where electoral outcomes can be overturned by executive fiat, thereby entrenching the very impunity and corruption seen in the Guinea-Bissau scenario.
