Resident Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike by InfoGuru118(op): 4:28am On Nov 30, 2025
The National Executive Council, NEC, of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Saturday night suspended its total, indefinite and comprehensive strike (TICS) for a period of four weeks following a series of conciliatory meetings with the Federal Government and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Very Nigerian reports.

President of NARD, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, who confirmed this to Vanguard, said the immediate suspension was a “gesture of good faith” intended to give the government room to implement the unresolved components of the association’s 19-point demand.

NEC, in its wisdom, has resolved to suspend the strike for four weeks to allow room for implementation. This decision reflects our commitment to continue negotiations without compromising the welfare of our members,” he said.

Suleiman explained that although the MoU captured significant progress, several key issues remain at the implementation stage.

He listed some of the pending issues to include the payment of promotion arrears, for which CMDs and MDs are still compiling data, with the government committing to a four-week deadline.

“Salary arrears have also been given a four-week deadline. On the specialist allowance, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has issued a clear directive, while the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission is expected to take the necessary steps to actualise it,” he said.

Also, in a message to his members tagged: “NARD TICS: The Journey Thus Far”, made available to Vanguard, Suleiman said: “The long-standing case of the Lokoja 5 is expected to be fully resolved within two weeks following a committee recommendation for their reabsorption into the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.”

The NARD President further noted that a number of longstanding issues had already been addressed.
These include the correction of failed payments on the 25/35 percent allowance and accoutrement allowance, the release of the Postgraduate Training Allowance (PAT), and the resolution of the skipping/entry level dispute.

He added that matters affecting house officers had been concluded.

He disclosed that CMDs and MDs have already been directed to halt all “obnoxious clauses” in locum contracts, while advisories on limiting call hours and ensuring adequate rest for resident doctors have been circulated nationwide.

“Committees on locum engagement and work-hour regulation are also to produce working policies within two months.

“In addition, the Collective Bargaining Agreement process is set to resume shortly, while discussions on the consultant cadre for other health professionals and the reconvening of the special pensions committee are expected to follow,” he said.

Despite acknowledging what he described as “significant progress,” the NARD President admitted the struggle had not been without errors. To his colleagues, he said: “Progress has been made, significantly. This is because of the courage and conviction of NARDites across the country. Mistakes were made along the way. Please place those solely on my shoulders as president.”

He vowed to use the four-week suspension window to intensify advocacy and engage both Nigerians and the Federal Government to ensure full implementation of all pending items.

“My next task is to take our case once again to Nigerians and the Federal Government. If items A, B, C, and D are not fully implemented within the timeline, NEC will lift the suspension and TICS will resume fully,” he warned.

Calling for unity and vigilance among members, he added that the countdown to the four-week deadline would begin on Monday, serving as a reminder to all parties involved.

“The countdown begins on Monday. Every day will remind Nigerians and the government to use this window justly and fully. It is not over until it is over.

“As we deliberate these issues, remain resolute and full of sincerity of purpose. We will continue to win. It is not over until it is over,” he said.

Many people suffered, loss of life, increase hospital bills at private facilities. Only the affected feel it. In Nigeria, we don't care as far as we are not affected.

And we love blaming the dead. Eg why did he vote in apc, or why did he decide to sick during strike? Etc

How can Tinubu be owing salaries to doctors and other federal employees despite hitting his higher revenue target in August and saving $84 billion from subsidy removal that has made petrol and life unaffordable for Nigerian households?

If this is not sheer wickedness then what is it huh

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

For the same reason pdp was also owing salaries despite ( according to you) earning more money and running a better economy than apc.

The fact is, a dutch diseased country like Nigeria doesn't earn the revenue that can pay the type of salaries doctors should be paid .

That's why tinubu removing subsidy is not enough. He got to rejig the economy to be less resource dependent and improve our tax to gdp ratio, to earn more revenue, otherwise he is a failure.

Health budgets are around 3 billion pounds UK. The UK where most of our doctors run to has a budget for the NHS of 274 billion pounds. UK is a diversified industrial economy, Nigeria under apc is deceiving itself with oyel

White people are just as bad as black people.

Like now, a black person commits crime, whites go say all blacks are criminals. Just like some Nigerians when people from a tribe commit crime.

And yes they blamed people well well for their political choices. See anti trump people for example

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

Classic.

The harsh truth is that under your party and under apc , the same things of poor water and other supply was largely because of resource dependency

Sometimes you guys need to get off supporting politicans and parties and think about what causes our real problems. The day you wake up to the fact , you will understand why tinubu is a bad leader.

Also most of the UK elite send their kids to elite private schools like eton, Shelburne, ampleforth, gordonstoun etc. not to the bog standard government run schools. Most of the UK's ruling class comes from these elite schools and elite universities like oxford, Cambridge and st Andrews.
