£50 - £60 for a UK concert makes sense because the UK minimum wage is around £12 per hour. A person can work five hours and buy Burna's concert ticket without shaking because the ticket is proportional to his earning power

Now compare that to Naija where the minimum wage is 70k, and only about 2.4% of Nigerians earn above N200k per month, and you'd realize the N250k pricing is disproportionate and in misalignment with the Nigerian economy and reality of most Nigerians.

If one follows the UK proportionality logic and applies it to Naija, tickets no suppose pass 10k but nobody realistically expects the promoters to drop the tickets to that level because pricing in itself is a form of crowd control and a way to filter the audience but 30k or thereabout for standing tickets would still have made economic sense.

The show is for diasporan returnees and detty december crowd angle too no make sense because those guys cannot fill even the 6000 capacity Eko Convention Centre on their own. Their numbers no reach. For the venues to be filled to capacity, you'll need the home-based Nigerians.

And when the shows are priced like luxury goods, the home audience automatically gets locked out. Then promoters go turn around and say Lagos no dey profitable. How will it be profitable when the core market wey fit fill the venue no even fit dream of affording entry?

It's okay for artistes to go global. But if dem wan do their December homecoming concerts, the pricing should reflect the economic reality of the home base

OR

Make dem no kuku do december shows for Naija at all. Nobody go vex, and life will continue

Amoto94:
Nigerian Air Force attack aircraft, most likely A-29 Super Tucanos conducted multiple strikes, killing scores of BHT/ISWAP fighters. The insurgents, estimated at about 300 strong, had launched a coordinated pincer assault on troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4, attempting to outflank and overrun their position at around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

The troops held their ground in a fierce two hour firefight. When the terrorists failed to overrun the position, they attempted to withdraw toward the Timbuktu Triangle. But their escape route had already been identified, and NAF attack aircraft were vectored to intercept. The arrival of the jets sealed their fate.

The NAF carried out multiple interdiction sorties against the fleeing fighters. The first strike hit a cluster of terrorists attempting to regroup, while follow up sorties targeted the surviving elements who scattered into the forest in a bid to escape.

The ordeal was far from over for the surviving terrorists. NAF armed attack drones soon joined the fray, maintaining continuous ISR overwatch as they delivered precision strikes on the remaining fighters attempting to make a hasty retreat.

Once again, the Nigerian military effectively combined intelligence, surveillance, and coordinated air ground operations to decimate terrorists attempting a surprise assault on troop positions.
It's a shame that it's the insurgents making the attempt to attack against our revered military.

No wonder this problem hasn't gone away.

Very shameful.

It's not a victory, it's an embarrassment

Exactly💯. Why must they even attempt to match their UK/US biggest cash-out pay from a one-off 9ja show, knowing their local fans are way poorer?
And their entourage is mostly 9ja-based right? So that alone should reduce their cost as lower flight tickets, wages to the event security/personnel, and other miscellaneous expenses should be lower in 9ja vs UK/US?

Except that the organisers (Flytime) are just being way too greedy with their profit margin, the ticket pricing is pure nonsense —no justification at all for such high fees. I even tried to book Asake's own immediately they announced it, but they conveniently only showed VIP (300K for a standing ticket) and VVIP, no option for regular tickets. It's just weird that your own local fans (who helped push your platform) can not afford to see their faves even once a year for a reasonable fee. Says enough of 9ja exploitation culture.

The shows might be a flop cos how will they get 5-6K Lagosians/Nigerians to pay 250K, 120K, 120K, 300K, 250K for back2back Rema, Flavour, Olamide, Asake, and Davido shows in concurrent days (Dec 21-25)? Except they will later sell the regular tickets closer to the dates after exhausting their VIP/VVIP sales.

Exactly!

It's only when these Naija artistes do international shows abroad they try to get a standard backup group like the compozers backing up live for Burna on stage.

When tbey come to naija they will have the DJ playing already mastered mixtape which the DJ cuts at intervals to allow fans sing along. I will not pay such steep price ticket only to be subjected to that same level of performance lailai.

I will rather go to one of the beautiful nubia shows at GRA ikeja or go to any night spot where they have live band.
The thing is these our artistes, who have gone international are not grateful enough. They shpuld learn to give back to home where the journey began. I mean they shouldnt even be looking at Naija shows as a profitable business anymore. They just have to see it as a way of appreciating the market that pushed them to the top. Bring down the charhes and allow local fans who wants to enjoy the show to be able to attend.

The amass much streamings on all platforms because of the local fans.

They mostly perform abroad these days and charge juicy amounts. But back home should be different. After all, they are aware of the economic hardship these criminal administration have brought upon their fans.

Peoples purchasing power have been suffocated. Them never see money to eat good food, pay bills or buy good clothes, na 250k to watch miming and one artiste jumping and shouting 1 2 3, while pouring them water

It's simple Mathematics

These guys gross an average of £60 per head in 20,000 stadium in Obodo Oyinbo = £1.2m Gross and you can assume they take 30% of Gate fee per show which is £400k

They come to Naija, promoter needs the show to generate £600k with £200k left after paying the artiste to cover hotels, private jet, security, venue fees, stage and audio equipment plus generate small profit for himself.

So Promoter now needs to generate N1.2bln from the show. Let's say each ticket is N200k, promoter now needs a 6,000 seater venue where everyone will pay N200k average

It is still hard to find 6,000 mfkrs to pay N200k each in Naija economy but you can maybe find 3000 people willing to do such, so they will now beg the artist to halve his fee, but the N200k gate fee remains. And thus, Nigerian concert goers pay more than their Western counterparts to access Nigerian artistes.

Add to this the paucity of venues that can hold large capacity (except Churches who won't allow secular artistes perform) and it's hard to bring the per Diem gate fee down for the Nigerian consumer. We are managing Godswill Akpabio 30k capacity as our majority serviceable stadium but the National Stadiums in Abuja and Lagos that could bring down the per Diem cost down have been mostly left to rot.
You're absolutely right and on point, and articulated the situation a lot better than I could manage.

Burna does maybe like 50-60 dates a year. He did like 6 UK shows this year, and is doing a 30 leg tour of North America.

If Money dey Naija market , he wouldnt be waiting for Detty December to do a one-off.

I've seen Burna pack out the national stadium of France. - I was there. Unless he wants to do free show for Charity, which crowd with which funds is going to bring that kind of money.

Same thing with Rema, I was in Barcelona in August where Rema did a random show in a Patk and ticket was €80 for a Sunday afternoon, on the Friday he had been performing at a festival in Gothenborg Sweden, that I was also supposed to be at.

These guys don't need to do shows in Naija, and any promoter that books them will have to beg for them to slash the rates, for the chance of even finding a margin to project.

The only incentive for Burna and Co to do a Naija show is to project dominance in their homebase during the increasingly famous cultural phenomenon that Detty December as before

I think the show promoters are sometimes the problem. I may be wrong, but most of these shows are packaged by show promoters like Flytime entertainment who put everything together from getting the major artiste to headline the show, pay supporting acts and arrange for logistics and lodgings.

I think the need for those show promoters to do all that and still make their own profit may be driving those prices up the roof.

Still on still, the prices are just too ridiculous for the kind of performance those guys will put out.

Me I no too dey go overnight shows and clubbing Sha, so maybe that is one of the reasons I feel I can never pay close to that amount to deprive myself sleep to be watching them mime a song I have listened to 100 times in the comfort of my house.

As I like Olamide reach, I will never pay that amount for regular ticket for his shows even if I am swimming in money.
