One of my biggest problems in watermelon farming was rodents.

Once the fruits start forming, they pierce, eat, and damage the young fruits. Even fruit flies were easier to control than these rodents, especially squirrels.

You will see big heads of Watermelon coming to farm the next day to see they have been damaged by rodents.

Tried scarecrows worked at first, but they do return after a few days.

Fenced the whole farm with palm fronds and traps, even used black nylon to fence it at some point, but how they still enter the farm was a mystery.

Now used dry grasses to cover the fruits was more effective.

To prevent this:

- Make sure the area where you are setting up the farm is not rodent infested.

- Fence the farm well with local palm fronds and traps.

- Use scarecrows and change their location after few days.

One of the major challenges in watermelon farming is rodents. Treat your soil well with nematicides any other issues can be easily controlled.

Fumigate and set trap that's all.

Trap down some rodents and use them for pepper soup. Make sure you eat and throw away the bones in the farm.

fencing using palm fronds is another alternative rightly put forward by you. Also it's cheaper to use.

Anyway, Agriculture is life

If they are scared of movements, there is an easy technological solution to that i believe. Maybe the cost might not be worth it. Do they only come after dark?

I would like to venture into watermelon and sugarcane farming when the time is right.

How many bones will you throw? to cover the area

Village people/witches should be in the list

There is a simple solution - go to court and sue them!

Sacrifice some portion for them and let them enjoy while you focus on the rest. Removing the already affected ones will make them move to next available ones.

Why not use cats to police them? 🌚

Just put a sign saying, be careful, I know yerima.., they will disappear from the farm like one guy wey I know

Once released, the air quality becomes compromised. You also know that these chemical firms have all sorts of class action lawsuits because of people using their products ignorantly?
There are environmentally friendly ways of dealing with pests. Some are stated in the post.

Turn dat lemon into lemonade. Those bush rats and squirrels can sell for 2k even worth more than d price if a water melon here in d north

Farming is not an easy venture, your entire investment can vanish right before your eyes due to the activities of pests, disease or flood!
