Nigerian popular ethnic groups and their main flaws.

I wish that we can take the highlighting of our flaws in good faith and work on them to improve ourselves.

1. Yoruba = unrivaled bigotry, nepotism and tribalism; lots of social ignorance; penchant to sit on the fence and lacking in ideological beliefs; deceptive and hypocritical.
2. Igbo = prone to emotional immaturity; inconsistent (sometimes mobbish, sometimes extremely self centered); inability to look inward and pivot accordingly; unnecessarily loud and boastful.
3. Hausa = close-minded naivety bothering on foolishness; inability to take critical decisions; group mental laziness and backwardness, extreme mob mentality.
4. Fulani = heartless, souless and murderous; unthinkingly conceited, scheming; given to extreme violence and unrivaled narrow mindedness, nepotic and hypocritical.
6. Kanuri = religious fanaticism, conniving and hypocritical.
7. Bini (Edo): shallow mindedness, not given to depth
8. Ijaw = quick to anger, impatience, vengeful.
9. All Nigerian groups = lovers of vanity; unwillingness to adapt and stick to a philosophy; doers of anything for the stomach; inability to reason with one another; general religious zealotry.

Note: If your ethnic group is not mentioned specifically, don't rejoice. Yours share among the flaws of others, depending on geographic proximity.

No ethnic group is without its own flaws.

You are not making sense. Yorubaland is home to millions of Nigerians from different parts of the country. You know, as some people say, human beings are like a mirror and if you smile at it, it will smile back at you.
If your experience of Yoruba folks is one of tribalism, nepotism etc. Perhaps you should look at yourself.

The only thing that made Yorubas look like they are accommodating is "Lagos" which happened to be the commercial and economic capital of Nigeria, take Lagos away and you will realize how nepotistic, ethnocentric and cunning the Yorubas are.



The op made a very good analysis of all the major tribes he mentioned.


Another flaw the Igbos have is our liberal mindedness which make us to easily forget things that happened to us in the past without taking lessons or precautions to prevent future occurrence.


For instance, based on past experiences in Nigeria, Igbos are not supposed to be investing massively outside the Southeast, especially when it comes to big structures and landed properties, we dont learn from our past mistakes and it has been a great challenge for Igbos in Nigeria and one of the things others use against us.


Igbos must learn to take lessons from the past in order to have a better future.


This same flaw make Igbos to easily accept and embrace just anybody that tend to speak truth that somehow favour Igbos without subjecting that person to test of time. Many cunning Nigerians like Reno Omokri, Femi Fani Kayode and co have taken advantage of Igbos in this regard too

If Yoruba are tribialist, then why many tribes building houses in Ibadan, and other parts in Ogun, Osun and do businesses successfully . Everyone like to use Lagos as an example but forget in many part of yoruba areas, many tribes come and do businesses here in Yoruba area with little or no disturbance. The problem is things that will not fly in other tribal region happens here in Yoruba. It is when the guests start acting like they are host, problems is bound to happen.
Yoruba are diplomatic and will do what favour them
If you do not like Yoruba, kuku say so and be a tribalist.

It has being like that since the colonial days as the southwest was the seat of the colonial government not like yorubas invited anyone.

What is this one saying, Lagos State governor are demolishing house prone to flooding and other areas that are not by approved government regardless of tribes. No one is picking a certain tribe and saying let bulldozer this Ijaw man house in Lagos.

I saw a video during the election when a Yoruba guy in one of the Igbo states had to run for his life when a mob of Igbo guys tried to attack him for no reason other than being Yoruba.
Should I then use that as the experience of all Yoruba folks in Iboland?

Youruba is easily the most bigoted and tribalistic in Nigeria. The prevention of non Yoruba voters in Lagos in 2023 is a tiny example of that.

We have seen series of heartbreaking videos where, the occupants of the hundreds of the demolished buildings in lagos, cry over no formal notice given to them before the demolition. And this can only happen when some group of evil men want to witch-hunt a certain group of people using government power.

yorubas are the most tribalistic in Nigeria,my Ondo friend was denied house in lagos because of fair skin color and name

There are yorubas in Enugu ans Onitsha
Hausas in ABA , Onitsha and owerri
Massive Yoruba population in owerri too

This are normal things...every Igbo city have lands given to northerners for free absolutely free
