He is actually correct. Kidnapping for profit started under OBJ and has been with us since. When MEND started ransoming expats what went through my mind is if this is not handled properly, we will become like South /Latin America where kidnapping is an industry.

Well, that is what happened. And kidnapping for money has been with us since then.

Then instead of nipping it in the bud, DSS was facilitating payments.

Nigerians also played their part because they were mostly too short sighted to understand that it would cascade from oyibos to regular Nigerians. I knew people who were joking and laughing when they saw white expats saying how much them go charge for this one. Well today they are charging for all of us.

Terrorism or militants never lasted up to 1 week in Nigeria . Ask Timaya what Obasanjo did with them in Bayelsa. Ask people in Somoto what Obasanjo did to them when they pickup up arms witching 48 hours .

onuman:
When then President Obasanjo ignored then governor of Zamfara state, Sani Yerima, to introduce and spread unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system in twelve northern Nigeria states.
Obasanjo called it political sharia. But it got rooted deeply in those states.
Shortly after, Boko Haram emerged and says that it's fighting for a Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal laws.
Thereafter and till today, the difference between Boko haram and most of the Muslims in the sharia states is like the difference between six and half a dozen.
Sharia law is constitutional under the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. Go and check.
What they decide to do with however should not be detrimental to the well being of the rest of Nigeria.

What a daft reply from a person in government, in authority. Just lucky Nigerians do not possess the qualities required for proper citizenship. If not he will not have the time to be looking in the rear view mirror. Just poor quality leadership everywhere you look

If you want a date when terrorisim took root...you have to go back to 1960...when the decision was made to keep on selling cocoa, cotton, groundnut, oil, and so forth, and import stuff with the revenue, as well as building a lot of stuff without thinking of how to maintain them, and then the idea that government would pay for everything also took root.

All these led to a economy with high debt and limited productivity. Even during times of plenty.

That means not enough jobs...a thing since the 1960's by the way (read the Incorruptible Judge, the play by Olagoke which was set in 1960's Nigeria)...and thus not enough incentive to get educated.

The result is a large pool of unemployed youth...and thus banditry, crisis, jihadis, even millitants and so forth.

When an economy is not based on industries and innovation, but on sharing oil money, why should you get educated? Even in the South, people say education na scam...no wonder we have kids as young as 12 attending Yahoo school, instead of secondary school. In the North, it manifests as banditry, jihadis, and so forth, and even in the SOuth, millitants and IPOB and robbery, and gangs and cults.

I mean, in developed countries, you get educated because you will not be able to eat...now imagine Nigeria, where you spend a lot of money on education, which is awful, and then no jobs.

Sharing money economics...practiced by all our leaders, planted the seed for today's problems in 1960. And we already saw the manifestation in 1966-70. Had we been a productive country then, there might have been no porgroms or civil wars.

Sharing money economics...something tinubu never change, up till now, because his power depends on it. Meanwhile nigeria bleeds.

TRADING BLAMES IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

Political and religious leaders in the Sharia states literally drew the boundaries of Arewa Islamic Republic beginning 1999 when they unilaterally adopted unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system.
But they still hold tight to one Nigeria because of lucre in the southern regions of Nigeria.
Every reasonable Nigerian knows that to end the killings in Nigeria, a sovereign Arewa Islamic Republic for the sharia states has to come to be.

Also, the reason why Nigerians pay ransom is because they don't want their relatives to die.

Personally, I think Nigerians should not pay ransom, and I believe the government should attack and burn all the bandits and jihadis, even if they get kidnapped people with them. IN a few years, kidnapping will become unfashionable.

But the problem is, innocent people will die. And many Nigerians are not as cold hearted as I can be sometimes ...and accept that.

Several years ago, jihadis took over a cinema in Moscow,Russia. Took 200 or so hostages, made demands, and when demands were not met, they started killing a hostage a day. Eventually the Russian government sent in Spestnaz. Spestnaz pumped gas into the theater, which rendered everyone unconscious, and then they moved in wearing gas masks and killed all the jihadis with a bullet to the head.

But some innocent hostages died, and all hostages had to be rushed to hospitals to be treated for the gas inhalation. Even then, hostages died, and guess what...the russian government was blasted for killing the hostages.

Until we are ready to stop paying ransoms, or even negotiating with bandits, the show will go on, and more will be kidnapped. But Nigerians never ready. People don't want their loved ones to die.

Sharia criminal laws are not allowed in Nigeria's Constitution. Sharia criminal laws include stoning blasphemous persons to death, stoning women to death for adultery, cutting out the hands of thieves, and other crude punishment methods.

Sharia civil laws are allowed in Nigeria's Constitution alongside Customary Laws.

This is very very childish excuse and shallow.

The same insecurity issues that the APC used against the PGEJ administration and adviced same to resign if he can't put the insurgents in check...

I think the APC and PBAT should reflect on that statement and do the needful. Nigerians are not that gullible. PBAT should not seek another term if these killings are still heard of at the end of this year 2025.

Yes, the adjudication of the criminal law is what brings about the arguments. But should a constitution allow one limb and discard the other? Let those saddled with amendment of Nigeria's constitution do the needful. But can they?

The sheer numbers of extremist Muslims in NASS, including Yoruba Muslims will politicize it.

Stop the blame game and focus on doing the work. Tinubu often blamed Jonathan in the past, but Jonathan himself did not spend time blaming others. Instead, he sought support and used the resources available to him, especially at a time when many believed the military was not performing effectively. He made efforts to regain control before the narrative changed under Buhari and Tinubu.

I totally agree. His carelessness in allowing SHARIA system in the North in a secular country is the very foundation of this rubbish we found ourselves in!

I dont know you, But i am disappointed .. what exactly is " corect " shifting blames

Under OBJ we had Miltants kidnapping exatriates, OBJ stoodup and fought it with zero tolerances, he didnt even negiotiate .. he gave militants hell

Under the same OBj we had OPC brouhaha, Fasheun vs Gani menace, OBj dealt with the crisis without tribal sentiments, zero tolerance

Under OBj Terrorism was still an ideology, what could he combat, lets follow matters with reasoning
The fvckin truth is If OBJ was in Power now, we wont be have negotiations with Terrorist, kiddnappers having dinner with governor ..

OBJ tenure was the most secured era in our years of democracy .. i travel like bird, road trips .. We cant never compare OBj to Tinubu ... obj was decisive, a no-nonsense man

I didnt even reading to the end, which Nigerians were rejoicing at the kidnap of expatriate ... We are not babies here ... make reference of Nigerians promoting kidnappers to take expatriate

The most important thing was that OBJ gave kidnappers help, today we have bandits taking selfie and even posting videos on youtube, why you and i get get ban on tik tok youtube for less

Do you know Tinubu media dogs have launched more attacks than Nigeria military attack record in 2025 .. they can launch attack on Trump buh cant face Bandits, they will blame Awololwo if his grand child raises concern. Thats the shamelezz govt you want to defend
