AndroBlaze:In a Federal police arrangement, the president through the IGP controls the police as the Chief security officer or CIC of the Country. In a state police arrangement, the governor through his commissioner of police controls the police as the chief security officer of the state. So, if we have a regional police, when we do not have a regional system of government in place, who will the police force in the region answer to? Who will be the Head or CIC of such police establishment? |

OpinionCounts:In the southwest, there is a history of partnership between the 6 states regardless of political affiliation, with Amotekun being the most recent example. We could have a board with the Commissioners of Justice or even Chief of Justices of each state representing their interests. We could even elect security operatives like the USA do with Sheriffs and DAs. The crisis we are facing is something that needs cooperation to defeat as the kind of criminals/terrorist we are facing are clearly not bound or restricted by artificial boundaries. |

As usual, it was all about pooling funds that some persons will be be up stealing. Why not talk about immediately constituting a regional security team? Why not talk about collaborating with the south and the FG to effectively end banditry? Why not talk about putting a permanent end to open grazing? If the North is truly committed to finding a lasting solution to the criminal exploits within the geopolitical region, then the issue of criminality is as good as gone or, at least, drastically reduced to the barest minimum. This has always been the view of a lot of well-meaning Nigerians over the years. For far too long, the issue of insecurity has often been viewed through religious lenses, thereby encouraging these enemies of society to thrive at the expense of the North and the country at large. The threat posed by DT seems to have jolted the leaders of the North to reality and the need for them to do the right thing in bringing about an end to the issue of insecurity. Those comments reveal their true feelings towards the indigenes of these two states. After one of the numerous mass slaughters that have taken place in Benue over the last 24 months, the comment from one of these actors was 'we are not happy with what happened in Benue'.
