Is there a way to convert from a temporary work visa to a permenant one?
Yes, however what you are asking for is pathway to permanent residency.in the US
That you would have to research yourself or pay for those who would do that for you. You can check my signature.

Besides this you can also look at Evisas, known as Employment based visas which give permanent residency on approval and can be processed whilst you are in Nigeria.
You can check which you are eligible for . There's a thread on nairaland for that. Please read from the beginning and study.
Also check Dr Olu asekun , he has podcasts on employment based visas EB1,EB2 etc

Thank you, it was issued after two days. Please, can I meet you? It’s seems you have been in the US for a while now. I understand H4 visa is restrictive. I need guidance and OT how to make the best use of it and support my partner
Yes, the H4 visa is restrictive in the sense that you are not allowed to work. However, there's a way around it.

Typically H-1B visa holders transition to an EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa. So the way around it is for the primary H-1b holder to file an I-140 immigrant visa application (the H-1b employer usually applies after 6 months of satisfactory work by the H-1b staff). They could apply using a priority application (this usually takes 3 weeks max) or a non-priority application (over 1 year). I will advise that if the employer does not choose to apply using priority, the primary applicant can suggest to pay for it depending on how long you would like to get over with the process.

Once the I-140 is approved, meaning you already have an approved immigrant visa application and are only waiting for your priority date to be current, you can then apply for H4 EAD (Employment Authorization), which typically takes 6-8 months depending on the volume of applications. This will then allow you to work with your H4 and support your spouse.

List of American🇺🇸 Universities That Accept Low GPAs (And Offer Fully Funded Opportunities) 🎓💰✈️

Finding US universities with flexible GPA requirements and scholarship opportunities can be tough but not impossible.

Here is a carefully selected list of American universities that welcome students with low GPAs and still offer full funding, assistantships, and scholarship opportunities.

🗽 Universities that accept low CGPA (2.0 – 2.8 range)
⭐ Universities with flexible / holistic admissions and some fully funded options

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) — Minimum GPA: 2.75

Purdue University Global — Minimum GPA: 2.5 (flexible review)

University of the People — Open admissions

California State University (CSU) System — Transfer GPA: Minimum 2.0

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) — Average GPA: Around 2.1

Valparaiso University — Minimum GPA: 2.0

🎓 More universities that accept 2.5–2.8 GPA for admission

🔥 Many of these offer assistantships, research funding, GA/RA/TA positions, merit scholarships, and need-based aid.

2.5 GPA Acceptable Universities:

California State University East Bay

California State University Fullerton

California State University North Ridge

DePaul University

Gannon University

Humboldt State University

Lamar University

McNeese State University

Pittsburgh State University

University of Arkansas

University of Memphis

University of South Alabama

University of the District of Columbia

Wright State University

2.7 GPA Acceptable Universities:

California State University Long Beach

Eastern Michigan University

Texas A&M University Kingsville

University of Arkansas at Little Rock

University of Colorado Colorado Springs

University of Illinois Springfield

University of South Dakota

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

2.75 GPA Acceptable Universities:

Arkansas State University

Bradley Universities

California State University Fresno

Pennsylvania State University (Selected Programs)

Texas State University San Marcos

University of Louisiana at Lafayette

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee

Western Illinois University

Universities that accept a 2.8 GPA:

New Jersey Institute of Technology

University of Central Missouri

** Full funding usually comes through Graduate Assistantships (GA), Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), and Departmental Scholarships - not automatically from GPA.

**Many of these universities evaluate applications holistically, meaning a strong SOP, experience, research work, IELTS/GRE, and recommendations can easily balance a low CGPA.

Ok if I can’t find a date in Nigeria soonest can I go to another country and apply for visa. For instance My sister lives in Ghana, can I go to Ghana and apply for F1 visa if I find a date there?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by lajid: 8:56am On Nov 28, 2025
Efetobore1980:

Ok this is why I wrote earlier that you should go and study this thread from the beginning because this particular question has been answered several time.

To answer your question, if you have been using your sister's Ghana address as a mailing or delivery address and you do visit during holidays at least once in a year then, Yes you can go to Ghana to apply.

Although, F1-visa visa applicants are given the grace to look out for a visa-appointment date in a 3rd country if there is no available dates in their countries due to political unrest, natural disaster, continuous bad weather, civil war etc, but the general 3rd country application rule is that ; you can only apply in a 3rd country if you are working there, have a spouse or marry from there , one of your parents is a citizen of such country, etc.

Therefore, your question is not a straightforward " yes or no" However, if you claim attachment or affiliation to such 3rd nation in any of the listed ways the visa officer will verify, and if you cannot prove your affiliation then your application will be label as a " Forum/Consular Shopping, and that attracts automatic visa refusal.
Please is there a way to check the conditions that would warrant me to seek visa from another country??

This forum has been so educative and informative. So currently I have a conditional offer from Wayne State University, Detroit for Spring/Summer session. I need to submit my academic evaluation by Wes before I can receive an unconditional offer. My question is, at what point should I apply for educational aid or tuition fee waiver.
Please note this is my first time applying to any school in the US.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Vanjori: 1:35am On Nov 30, 2025
When a school offers you conditional offer,it means you need to do something in order to get a full unconditional admission. In your case you are expected to submit your transcript which have been evaluated by wes in a 4.0 scale. If you have the money to do it, do the evaluation and send to them and you are very much likely to be offered a full admission.

Depending on the degree you are going for, if it is an undergraduate degree, scholarships are slim, but if your record is good you may apply for some international student scholarship offered by the school.

If you are a postgraduate student, most schools in the US offer assistantship for graduate students and this comes with tuition waiver (this depends on the course you are going for).

My advice is, after submitting your evaluated transcript, email the admission officer (for undergraduate) or graduate codinator (for postgraduate) for graduate assistantship.

All the best.

Please someone should kindly shed light on this. I'm doing WES course by course evaluation for USA admission which is $233. I have already budgeted for it only for me to start the process and they say I will be charged $34 extra for each school they are sending the transcript too.

Please is this how it really is? I thought everything is digital and already included in the $233. Please did anyone experience this too and had to pay extra for each school they applied to?

Please those that paid for SEVIS, the system said I can only pay through cheque and western union. It didn’t give option of credit card. Also is advisable for your sponsor to pay for your SEVIS?

Anyone can pay your Sevis fee, so your sponsor can do that.
Let whoever pays use the payment method Sevis permits

You might want to start applying for courses and determine which schools you want that require a WES evaluation. That way you decide how you will spend in terms of schools that need WES and are worth your time.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by missidy: 6:21pm On Dec 02, 2025
Ok, thanks. So that means the extra fees per school is non-negotiable. Hmmm
