I don't know why we are so disruptive in our "anyhowness"

Why would the appearance of a masquerade be the source of disorder and trepidation instead of it showcasing or rich cultural heritage?

Their characterisations with anarchy may well relegate them to the dustbin of history in no distant future.

To think that they are supposed custodians of the Spirits our ancestors speaks ill of them as well.
Which yeye cultural heritage?heritage of poverty and backwardness?how heritage take help this country?are you better than the western world in ANYWAY?do they have all these yeye things and culture?abegi follow who know road, follow the west and grow simple..heritage of ancient people still we are a fvcking third world shithole.

I just hope you won't utter such statement near Sango Ota or Shagamu. A friend told me that in Sango Ota their masquerade festival is held everyday for seven months non stop and hundreds of families celebrate on different days and it's more popular than Christmas or Salah holiday. Seven goddam months non stop for masquerades.
I confam that...OTA people dem like masquerade pass evangelism oo

These masquerades use whips or canes to intimidate other people, sometimes causing serious trepidation and chaos.

Those with hyper level heart diseases often die from fear. Some sustain injuries from trying to flee from this thing you called "tradition". The modern era we are in doesn't condone this nonsense.

They should abolish your very own tradition because you've successful embraced another man's tradition. Omo this right here is the height of them all 🙌🙌🙌

So oro should continue to terrorise people? There are ways to display our cultural heritage to attract audience instead of fear. The insecurity in the country will only mean that the noose around the neck 🧣 of some certain cultural celebrations that promote fear will be tightened certainly.
Certainly!
Oro DO NOT Terrorise people! Advance Notice of more than a week is always given to warn Women/Children and uninitiated to stay-off certain section of the community where the Oro rite will be performed. This is not unlike the way Muslims close certain street for Jumat.
It's not about bashing people's tribes or ancestors, but reinventing our cultural displays like masquerades to attract people's love like the Carribbean does...other than people's fear.
I understand your fear and concern.
When the Eyo Masqueraders (My favourite) were banned - later the ban was commuted to "strict restrictions" because of their excesses - it was because they have no boundaries/authorized permission and incidents of rival clashes was rife.
Now, Oro/Eyo don't just come out - they have their Seasons/Occasions, Timetable(published/manually announced) and Police permission.

If things continue like this I can assure you some of these masquerades will be sent to the annals of history. The cultural displays is for the people to enjoy and not for the people to fear
This is the major reason why we should encourage non-indigenes to respect the tradition of their host community instead of claiming unwise right, left and center especially when such Traditions has customary law backing.

I like your mature and constructive criticism. Unlike some of the very important idi-hots that dotted my mentions. Thank you.

.

These masquerades harass people, some use their cane to threaten and flog a person they demand money from.... some chase people away in a busy area and businesses areas where shops are and cause chaos and problems in that area and want to enter shop to do petty stealing.... and they masquerades followers or members will want to use that chaos in that area to enter shop and do petty stealing..steal some items

Masquerades is for fun and entertainment but not to be harassing people, chasing people up and down with cane and flogging some people causing chaos , problems in that area
All you have written amount to* give a dog a bad name just to hang it..........' How many of those constituting noise pollution in the name of evangelism have been arrested? How many of the pastors who obtain money fraudulently have been arrested and you are here telling me about stealing?

It's all for the good of the country. Nigeria boasts some of the most beautiful cultures in the world and in Africa at large. We need to understand that we have our futures and children's futures together so we must all responsibly demand good governance from our leaders and stop fighting each other instead
Else the country will keep retracting. Leadership is a good as the followership
