Enugu State Generated 180 Billion In IGR In 2024

ENUGU STATE generated ₦180.50 billion in Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2024.
ENUGU STATE budget for 2025 was ₦971.08 billion, of which ₦133.14 billion is for Recurrent Expenditure.
If Enugu State were to fund its 2025 Recurrent Expenditure using its 2024 IGR, it would cover 135.60% of it.

This means Enugu is fairly and comfortably able to fund its current Recurrent Expenditure budget with its previous year's IGR

It is quite fascinating, the Governor must be doing something spectacular and deserve commendation.

There should be an independent government agency that audits what states earn, receive and what it is actually spent on. That way one can be certain about figures that states reel out. The agency will also provide EFCC enough evidence to prosecute governors once they leave the office.

180 billion is over 100m dolls. Let's stop this comparison, the US is far more advanced than Nigeria, it will take another 500 years to catch-up with them only if we get it right. We should be concerned with catching up with countries that were in our league before but have left us behind now. I'm talking of countries like India, South Korea, Brazil and the likes

The truth is the only way states can earn money is by taxation, and even then, Lagos is taxing a mere 2.3% of its gdp

If you want really extortion tax, check out the UK. You pay income tax and council tax and even television tax. And it's not like every one there is rich enough to pay them taxes, yet that is why the UK has good services compared to naija.

Nigerians think that government should just sell resources and share the money. Resources whose prices never favor us, which means borrowing more and more.

It's not about humility; it's about our leaders knowing nothing about leadership. The worst of us are leading us. Our currency has no value and we are busy still importing everything, growing other people's economies. That #180 billion could actually mean $180 billion if we had visionary leaders.
