simfrost90210:You didn't understand that sentence. It means that the amount could actually be equal to USD if we had visionary leaders because at some point in this country the value of naira was higher than USD. |

Enugu state governor will take Nigeria by surprise, that guy is a square peg in a square hole.He is a visionary leader, you saw how elaborate his budget presentation was,he has eyes for details. Little wonder why APC and Tinubu were on their knees to get him cross-carpet to APC. More like reaping where you did not sow! |

nairalanda1:Calm down. You don't know it all. States can make a lot of money by establishing agribusinesses and making it PPP arrangements. Nigeria's past leaders were more visionary - they set up plantations across the country that created jobs and grew the economy. Imo State still has a massive palm plantation established in 1970s or so that this admin doesn't manage properly. There's a company in Edo State called Presco that is valued at over $1 billion. That company sells one thing - palm oil and rakes in billions of naira in profits every annum. This country is just soooooo annoying. The dumbest are leading the smartest. Government can invest lots of money in power and agriculture and make it a PPP arrangement. That's why seeing Tinubu waste trillions of naira on coastal road is just irritating! Tomorrow, we are still wondering why a country of 230 million people cannot generate ordinary $300 billion in GDP. |

SmartPolician:Oga even if we do all you said it still won't yield enough money. We did that in the first republic and most Nigerians were still poor. The way nations become rich is by a combination of industrial economy and taxes. You cannot demand the life they have ocersease where they all pay taxes |
| Re: Enugu State Generated 180 Billion In IGR In 2024 by nairalanda1(m): 8:08am On Dec 04, 2025 |
greatiyk4u:How do you think the UK is able to afford the services it provides? The thing is the UK can afford those services it provides because it raises enough income in tax to do so At the moment Nigeria cannot afford those services because tax uptake in Nigeria is low. Like Lagos. Lagos tax to gdp is a mere 2.3 % . There is no way Lagos can provide the type of service you are demanding they do before most of its residents pay tax for it. If they try it, they will have to borrow . And borrow something like ten to twenty billion dollars annually to do so. That's not possible Most Nigerians don't realize that the good services they enjoy aborad is because their abroad people pay massively for the thing. Whether it is taxes or cost reflective tarrifs |
| Re: Enugu State Generated 180 Billion In IGR In 2024 by SmartPolician: 8:09am On Dec 04, 2025 |
lezz:Yes, it did significantly. That's why we must invest in only infrastructure that will drive industrial growth. That way, people can set up their factories in Nigeria instead of importing finished products from China. Imagine Dangote building his infrastructure for his companies. Builds seaport and power station just to do business in his own country! How many Nigerians have the financial muscle to do that or can even invest that amount in infrastructure? This is something the government should be doing. I don't know why this government isn't taking power seriously but wants to hit an utopian $1 trillion economy. They think that leadership is all about setting astronomical targets. |

Gwizatasie:Please how is squeezing out IGR from the people equal to something spectacular that deserves commendation IF the public is not receiving commensurate government services and common utilities provided by well paid civil servants? Do you know if that is the case of Enugu state under APC's Mbah? Do you know ![]() Abi Enugu is worse than Lagos state in a basic utility like water supply, after 26 years of Tinubu's TAX monster plan that has increased the state's budget to N4.2 trillion next year from N42 billion a quarter of a century ago? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5v-F81hNTs |

nairalanda1:You don't know and don't even know that you don't know. I didn't mention abroad in my comment. I'm telling you how things work in Nigeria. PPP works in Nigeria. NLNG is a PPP arrangement that has generated millions of dollars for this country. Life was better in the past in Nigeria. Go and ask your parents their experiences. Nigéria lost it because the present generation of leaders stopped spotting her investment potential and creating wealth for the people. By the way, nobody can tax a broke man! You must create wealth first before you ask for taxes. |

SmartPolician:All right, then don't complain when your government takes more and more loans, because that's what you are asking for. It's the harsh truth. Our budget is dependent on oil income. Which is not high enough for all of us. And matters are made worse by low oil prices. So taxes or we admit we are poor and accept poor man service. |

IGR is something spectacular as money gotten from FAAC is not enough to run a state and IGR if properly harnessed and efficiently used will improve the state economic development. The Lagos context you brought in wasn't really necessary, anyways it is all good anonimi: |

It is because over the years the average Nigerian is not used to paying of taxes, mind you it is our obligation to pay taxes, the question is if the tax are being properly utilized for infrastrictural development. NwaliE01: |
