And abeg, nobody should tell me that there's no money, Biko.

Security votes funds is enough to pay these guys
I just googled and they are 180,000 personnel in the army. Minimum of 300k times that amount is 56billion monthly and you know higher ranks will definitely take 3x more. Do you really think that's sustainable.

Yea, this is always the reasoning, which considering politics as the business that it is, does makes sense, especially when you consider these critical parts of governance get the most budget allocated.

E go really hard this country make any sort of progress sha...
Tinubu ensured that the economic sector was handled by loyalists with verifiable expertise but he keeper fumbled the security/defence sector.

He appointed 2 ministers for the defence ministry and neither of them had any expertise in that field. That is bothering on negligence.

Absolutely sustainable

If 1 billion is deducted from each States allocation, we already have 37 billion.

States are getting nothing less than 5 billion monthly, even a state like Katsina. But they can be quick to spend 50 million on bandits

Very sustainable, my Chief

If corp members are receiving 77k for doing nothing then 112k for military personnel is an insult. If police officers tell you their salaries you will shake head.

Nigeria actually has a lot of states that people should normally be able to reside in if not for this insecurity issue, like there was a time last year I seriously considered moving to Akwa Ibom...Calabar is still quite decent, Jos is another nice city, Asaba and Delta environs isn't bad either...Kaduna is another state I've heard good things about, Enugu too, if not for the water issues.
You need to have seen Calabar under Duke. That was the period the saying "Efik edi afia enwe" (transliterated as "Efiks are Whites" ) was most popular.

It was a crime to drop litter in Calabar. It was under Akpabio too. Yes, you'll be picked by a taskforce for dropping litter even from a moving vehicle.

Cross River slacked under Imoke while Akwa Ibom picked up under Akpabio.

I have noticed the better-performing governors are those who fought their way to earn it without the backing of Godfathers.

Akpabio fought an institution to earn it so performed. Imoke was literally handed the reins and messed it up.

All things considered, I don't think it's sustainable. The Nigerian Military already enjoy special status compared with other government employees.

I doubt renumeration is top 5 reasons why those guys aren't able to do the job of defeating terrorism, because in truth, there's very little you can pay someone that'd justify the sacrifice they make, especially in a war-time situation.

The military (Nigeria context) is the reason why civilians are still going to work and party day in and out.

300k presently is not even average for a family of 5 presently relying on a soldierman salary.....

Nigerian military are among the most engaged in the world...they work tirelessly n should be honored with something worthy of bonuses in family care after death.

So yes....300k plus sweet and encouraging packages should be applauded

That's why I said "all things considered", cause you and I know that money will always be stolen, so what we're doing is workaround what's Constant K.

I think Rivers state used to be very clean too, what later happened to the state is what I don't know.

In 1998 when we traveled to PH for my uncle's wedding, everyone one of us that traveled down from Lagos were shocked at how clean PH city was. The roads were just too unbelievably clean.

Fast forward to present day, PH is not anywhere near what it used to be in terms of cleanliness.
Amaechi would have been the best governor Rivers State ever had, but he made two mistakes.

1. He gave out too many capital project contracts to indigenous contractors as compensation who ended up embezzling the money. The Elelenwo -Akpajo Road linking Eleme - Ikot Abasi Federal Highway and Port Harcourt - Aba Federal Highway is a prime example.

2. He lost the last 3 years of his administration fighting Patience Jonathan (and Goodluck) while funding the coalition to merge into an opposition while Akpabio and Fashola were going at top speed.

That beef affected the completion of both federal highways I mentioned. The Akwa Ibom part is good but the Rivers part is part after Ogoni.

----

But Amaechi had good intentions. He used to drive powerbikes around to inspect projects. Insisted on free education and built model schools which were well-equipped.

He was the one who use to force landlords to paint their buildings else the RVSG will paint the buildings then give them a bill.

I refuse to be morally blackmailed and drawn into your extreme hypothetical mind game. Your overly sanctimonious posturing has made you miss the fact that you're the one trying to cheapen the importance of political choices by reducing it to supporting jihad and violent extremism.

That you'd even go down the manipulative route of "what if your mother supports a candidate who subscribes to a jihadist ideology" in an attempt to use a fringe hypothetical to justify emotional overreaction to ordinary political choices, is shameful and defeats your arguement.
This hypothetical scenario of voting Jihadist shouldn't be coming from someone who voted Buhari twice but drew the line when it comes to Tinubu

Between Tinubu and Buhari who is closer to Jihad

Lets ask if he was cut off by family for his electoral choice

Donald Duke might not have been perfect, and certainly has his critics, but you can tell that the man had genuine love for this people and his city, and it showed in the way he cared for the state.

There's just too few governors focused on making cities livable, leave bridges and mighty structures, just see to the basics, clean streets, attention to drainage and sewage management, security, street lights, neat schools, books for kids, salaries for civil servants, traffic management, community health centers...these little things that just makes life easy enough.

Not forgetting he once wished for a governor that he knew was in no position to be flying an airplane to take control of one knowing that'd ensure that Peter Obi (one of hundreds of passengers) died in the crash cheesy cheesy cheesy

Same person that also expressed a desire to run down EndSARS protesters.

DonJ is a very interesting character, but his failure to see the contradiction in a lot of things he expresses with passion is always funny.

Do you believe it is not possible to change the things you believe in? That once someone supported something in the past or behaved in a certain way in the past, do you believe such person can never change?
Do you believe change is constant or stagnant?

Of course, change is constant, but when you've shown a pattern of flipping across political positions, especially as an extremist, maybe what you need is a measured expression of whatever your new political positions are, and grace to those that don't share your political views today.

DonJ has been an extreme Buharist
DonJ has been extremely anti-Obi, going as far as wishing him death
Then anti-Buhari
Then an extreme Obidient
Now back to being anti-Obi and anti-Tinubu.

DonJ has to be calming down, and not doing emotional blackmail with people that don't share his political position.

the salient point
for a country in peacetime, the military is putting out too many fires

besides the lack of political will to come down hard on the riff-raffs because of traitorous sympathies, we have a numbers problem
the military--particularly the army and air force--should be significantly larger. 3x larger

but even i would have no retort if someone opposes a major recruitment spree
because if you picked up a random nigerian from a newspaper stand and told him he would be in charge of 500K troops, he'll depose the president that evening

You know that saying that states "repeat a lie a thousand times and it becomes truth" or throw Soo much shit and see which sticks.

That's what basically happened. A single OFF-HANDED JOKE I made about Obi has suddenly become a defining stance.

For the record, this was even far before I became interested in politics as a whole. Before that, I had no opinion or perspective about the man. I hadn't mentioned him even once but somehow "I hate him enough to wish him death".

Agenda wey no get papa and mama, na him be that.

It's not even about changing of opinion here. I didn't even have one about the man before that. That post was made 15 years ago. That was my ONLY POST about Peter obi ever in my old account.

It was a joke that they used to drive agenda when I was pointing out raumdeuters extreme hate towards igbos.

"Extreme buharist". grin grin really??
I've tried to explain the nuances in my vote, not support.
My vote for APC was to dismantle the dominance of pdp in the hopes of strengthening our democracy and not becoming a one party faux democratic nation like many other African countries.

Hindsight has shown that position to be failure but at the time was very logical. hence my support for a total revolution.

My obidient support was never about just one man which is why I am kinda political depressed. It was about participating in a political revolution, one led by the masses. It was a dream, Obi was just a vehicle to that dream. His failure to build on that movement is why you can see my disinterest in him at the moment not as if I'm suddenly turning on his values which I had espoused.

We are actually not in peacetime. We are in a de facto war even if it has not been officially declared by the government. An unconventional and asymmetric war but still a war. It is only when government and the populace accept this fact that the war can be prosecuted properly.

One moronic senator wanted Christopher Musa to "take a bow and go" during his screening. Nincompoops not realising that we are in the midst of an existential war. The substructure of the nation is being eroded piecemeal by these insurgents and bandits, and the collapse when it happens will seem surprising only to those who are not vigilant.
