Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has declared that the Nigerian government’s attempt to break the spirit of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has backfired spectacularly. According to Sowore, Kanu has become nothing less than a celebrity inside the Sokoto Custodial Centre — a symbol of resistance whose influence continues to grow even behind prison walls. Speaking to journalists at the Abuja Federal High Court, Sowore insisted that the government’s decision to jail Kanu for life will go down in history as one of its greatest blunders. He went further to predict that Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the sentence, will eventually have no choice but to return to Kanu in Sokoto to apologize — just as oppressive governments of the past begged icons like Fela Kuti when their injustice was exposed. Sowore said: “Nnamdi Kanu is already a celebrity in prison. They said he has become the president of the prison — maybe out of respect, but what is clear is that they have elevated him instead of silencing him. When they carried him to Sokoto to disgrace him, he turned Sokoto into another Mecca.” He added that while some people refused to speak up earlier to prevent this injustice, the same people are now “rushing to Sokoto” to see the man they once abandoned — a testament to how Kanu’s moral authority continues to rise. MY OPINION (STRONG, ACTIVIST, PRO–KANU): Everything happening now only proves one truth: you cannot imprison an idea whose time has come, and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not just a man — he is a movement. Instead of weakening him, the system has only strengthened his influence and amplified his voice. The Nigerian government thinks locking Kanu away will kill the Biafra struggle, but they have only turned him into an icon of resistance, a symbol of courage, and a rallying point for millions who are tired of injustice, marginalization, and selective oppression. What they meant as punishment has become a platform, and what they intended as humiliation has become a badge of honour. It is clear that history is already vindicating Kanu, and the same people who orchestrated his imprisonment will one day bow to the truth they tried to bury. The more they try to silence him, the louder his message becomes. The more they try to cage him, the more his influence spreads. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s current status in Sokoto prison is not a defeat — it is a powerful reminder that a just cause cannot be crushed. And no matter how long the system delays, justice must come, and those who engineered this injustice will one day be forced to face the truth, whether they like it or not. |

It is good to console oneself. A Person that ordered other human beings to be killed deserves no sympathy from me. Life is too sacred to be demanding that people be killed simply because they want to going about their normal business on Mondays when you want them to sit at home in protest. Ordering Nigerian soldiers and policemen to be killed for being employed by the government deserves more than life sentence as punishment. Ordering government owned buildings and vehicles to be burned to the ground is not activitism...it is terrorism You can try and rebrand Kanu as a peaceful activist...he was not. He was an anarchist a blood thirsty murderer, a megalomaniac, fraud and charlatan. Simon Ekpa did not have to personally kill anyone in Nigeria before he was arrested tried and convicted for acts of terrorism in far away Finland. The same thing with Adeyinka Grandson, the yoruba seccession he was arrested, tried and convicted for in UK for inciting hatred against other tribes in Nigeria ... Mind you, I have always been anti establishment and believe that if a marriage is not working, it is okay to seek divorce. Nevertheless a mother won't kill the children so as to get the divorce she wants from their father. Especially when she is guilty of infidelity and not as innocent as sge think she is. The first Nigerian coup saw Igbo soldiers kill the political and military leaders of other tribes including their wives totalling 22. While they spared their own leaders who were Igbo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966_Nigerian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat How do you think the indigenes of other tribes in that era would feel. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. You are not the victims that you feel you are. |

Kanu's imprisonment is an opportunity for him to reflect on his past mistakes. The Nigeria government is not against the Biafrans, we are only against Kanu's style of forcing people to join his movement by all means. |

otipoju:But if you heard that bandits wiped out 200 people in Benue, you won't write long post like this to condemn it. But as soon as soon you hear Nnamdi Kanu, you will remember that insecurity exists in Nigeria and come to write 'Nnamdi Kanu said this', 'he said that' It is only in Nigeria that spoken words is an act of terrorism. |

Salewa97:You mean the same Nigerian government that gave the bandit leader below peace deal that allows him him to go home with his guns? They agree with his style of banditry? Its only in Nigeria that a bandit leader will be holding press conference publicly to tell government what he wants or does not want.

gidgiddy:In Finland, spoken words can be acts of terrorism. That is why Simon Ekpa ( the sekf styled content creator) was arrested, tried, convicted and currently serving his sentence in prison. In England, spoken words can be acts of terrorism. That is why a yoruba man called Adeyinka Grandson is currently in prison. He was arrested, tried and convicted for inciting hatred against other tribes. In Nigeria and Kenya, spoken words can be acts of terrorism, that is why Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, tried and convicted and is currently serving a life sentence in prison. These three men lived and worked in Europe and were destabilizing their country and ordering people to go kill other people feeling they were untouchable. E don clear for all of them eyes. Meanwhile for emphasis, I reiterate again: Bandits, Herdsmen, Kidnappers, Unknown Gunmen, Boko Haram, ISWAP, Lakurawa, IPOB are all terrorists and deserve to be wiped off completely including their sponsors. No matter how just you think your course may be, once you cross that threshold of killing human beings or advocating they be killed...you have moved from being an activist to becoming a terrorist. Telling the truth will free your heart from the stench of tribalism that blinds you to common sense. ANYONE who invites, sponsors, or actually kill other human beings for ethno- religious reasons deserve to be taken off the board. |

otipoju:And in Nigeria, the bandit leader below can hold public press conference to demand terms of a peace deal that allows him and his men to go home with their guns Oh sorry, I forgot you people only remember terrorism only if it has to do with the Southeast, just like your federal government

Sowore is a joker. He should let Kanu's family and lawyers do the advocacy for him instead of making it look like a political project. |

otipoju:Let me say something concerning the bolded. It doesn't matter what you think or believe, what matters is the truth. It's either you are ignorant of the whole Kanu and IPOB issue or you are not a truthful person. The truth remains that Kanu never ordered for people or anybody to be killed because of "sit at home" protest. Am saying this for the records, not for you nor your likes to believe. Don't forget in a hurry that the security forces (army and police) were killing peaceful protesters in SE. And it was the support and cheering the government and security forces were getting from people like you, in the internet that provoked Kanu and his men. I don't know if you lots were expecting love and handshake from Kanu and his men, after killing his people just because they protested against marginalisation and bad governance? As far as we the sane Nigerians are concerned, KANU is innocent and he is the best thing that has ever happened to reasonable Nigerians. |

Mbanda:So the things we heard on his live broadcast with our own ears are false...especially where he ordered 2,000 heads to be buried with Ikonso. Or where he said he knows that some of his people will not obey his orders to sit at home and instead go looking for their daily bread and they will be killed. Or where he was boasting he will go to Abuja and bring Buhari back in chains . Like I said, that you deny reality does not stop it from being reality. He has been served a dose of reality, you all can bleat all you want. |

otipoju:Your hypocrisy has no limits, I stopped reading where you claimed that Nigerian security men that were killed were simply because they were employed by the Government, I won't give the response you're expecting to get because I wouldn't want to massage your naivety. |
| Re: Omoyele Sowore Continues To React Over The Unjust Sentencing Of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Mbanda(m): 8:51pm On Dec 05, 2025 |
otipoju:Who killed ikonso and for what reason? Your government can't go about killing innocent people through their security forces and expect peace and love in return things are not doing that way. In advanced country they treat their citizens well so the citizens can be patriotic in return. But in Nigeria people hate and pray for the downfall of Nigeria courtesy of bad government and leaders. Buhari's government and the army were quick in killing ikonso an innocent man, while the same buhari was busy pardoning boko haram members in the name of "repentant". Kanu was right for demanding the things he demanded for ikonso's burial. Lastly, what you call reality is nothing but APC media lies and propaganda. Kanu will be free one day, and you and your likes will bury your heads in shame. |

Went to court and then showed a total lack of decorum in his outburst. The hypocrite is you and your ilk batting for an unrepentant terrorist and complaining that they are not bring treated as well as repentant ones. Grow up! |
