Masquerades Not Banned — Only Restricted From Streets and Highways, Gov Eno Clarifies

- Appoints Pastor Joe Linus SSA - Religious Affairs

🎈Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has clarified that the State’s Executive Order on masquerades is not a blanket ban but a restriction aimed at keeping them off the streets and highways for public safety.

🎈Speaking at the funeral of the late Mrs. Rose Linus Okon at the State Cenotaph, Uyo, the Governor explained that traditionalists are free to practise their faith and display masquerades within village squares or other designated community spaces.

“I have not banned masquerades in the State. I only banned their activities on the streets where they have become a threat to citizens,” he said. “They are free to carry on their Ekpo religion, but it must not infringe on the movement or safety of others. Anyone who violates this will face the law.”

🎈He emphasized the need to balance freedom of worship with the rights of residents to move freely without intimidation.

🎈Governor Eno also consoled Pastor Joe Linus, first son of the deceased, encouraging the family to find comfort in the devoted life their mother lived in service to God and humanity.

🎈Commending Pastor Linus for his humility and long-standing service to the Christian community, the Governor announced his appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters, effective January 2026. He charged him to work with the existing religious advisory team to provide spiritual support for the State through prayer.

🎈The Governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, members of the State Executive Council, political stakeholders, captains of industry, and other top government officials.

How can we ban our essence, it's madness, if anything is to be banned, it is foreign religion and ideology that is destroying Nigeria... Islamic jihadists.

Our traditions are who we are, though I appreciate the Christian ideology for its contribution to the world...red Cross, developed free Christian nations like America, UK etc, a blessing to the world. But our culture and traditions are who we are and what we should use and package to outsiders, for tourism etc. we must wake up, Chinese use their language and maintain their culture and are great, so is Japan etc, we must respect and preserve our culture, our existence, wealth and glory as a people is in our culture and heritage.

Village square and community spaces are enough for them to showcase their culture.
Re: Masquerades Not Banned — Only Restricted From Streets And Highways, Gov Eno. by Host78: 8:53am On Dec 06, 2025
So will he ban Christians organising crusades with loudspeakers in public spaces?

How about churches and mosques in his states using loudspeakers disturbing people?

Or those doing morning cry with loud speakers in the morning and waking people up to listen to them shout?

But he wants to limit the traditionalist to village squares because theirs is dangerous or infringe on human right.

This pastor governor is just an extremist. A religious bigot.

In his mind god made him a governor and he wants to do away with the traditionalist because they are devilish to him.

This is the type of extremist that will bomb Christian churches if he were a Muslim.

Worship your God, let others worship theirs in peace pastor governor.

are your churches not enough for you to worship?

Why the loudspeakers outside or the crusades?

If they ban churches from using loudspeakers now or having crusades you'll call it persecution.

But when you do it to others, it's God's will.

Extresmists and bigots everywhere undecided

Where is the freedom of movement and freedom of religion you swore to defend.

Tinubu should declare that state "A STATE OF PARTICULAR CONCERNS".

As much as they do not constitute violence and breach of peace. Why not live and let them live

There are squares, Palaces gardens, Open gardens, School gardens, Stadiums, Halls, Event Centres et al, even in urban area/city that can be used.

The governor's emphasis is for masquerade no to be parading on the roads, streets and highways.

Society evolves with time. History tells us that Saudi Arabia was once known with idolatry before Islam came there. The idolaters used to kill human beings for ritual and the society was tired before they changed their belief system.
Will you continue with that kind of culture that has no respect for human life and must be continue living with cruel belief system just because it existed before our grand parents were born?
