Military Coup In Benin Republic: Soldiers Announce takeover On Live TV (Pics) by fergie001(op):
· The November 2025 constitution has been suspended.
· All institutions have been dissolved.
· Political parties' activities have been suspended until further notice.
· Benin's land, sea, and air borders are closed until further notice.
A group of soldiers has appeared on Benin’s state TV announcing the dissolution of the government in an apparent coup, the latest of many in West Africa.

The group, which called itself the Military Committee for Refoundation, on Sunday announced the removal of the president and all state institutions.

President Patrice Talon has been in power since 2016 and was due to step down next April after the presidential election.

Talon’s party pick, former Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni, was the favorite to win the election. Opposition candidate Renaud Agbodjo was rejected by the electoral commission on the grounds that he did not have sufficient sponsors.

Last month, the country’s legislature extended the presidential term of office from five to seven years, keeping the term limit at two.

But west Africa appears to be the most unstable region in Africa in terms of insecurity, bad governance and coup d'etat

Biya is having strong foreign back up. Mohammed Sallah appeared as one of the registered voters, the matter is not even discussed after the election

This thing is getting closer little by little. God forbid it in Nigeria. Only children who never witnessed military rule call for them to overthrow the govt.

Military government would have been a solution if they weren't always more corrupt than the civilian government.
Legacy will always remember Abacha and his family's claims about how much they took out of Nigeria

Which Burkina Faso? Una go just dey cap wetin no make sense. Why don't you leave Nigeria and relocate to Burkina Faso.

Those ibos advocating for a military take over in Nigeria, should first start with their five south east states. Let them remove their Governors : Alex Otti, Hope Uzodinma, Charles Soludo etc, and then appoint Hausa officers as states administrators. Let's start from their first

Military takeover will not work in a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria.

Most of African leaders have failed their people that's why these coups are happening. The only thing they know how to do is loot.

Shows the low quality leadership class mentality. We have the worst of us in power, who can't move majority of the people forward, otherwise the people won't support these regimes, and without the people's support regime will collapse...African Union must have a strong military unit, mobilised to go into action, this is the only thing that can deter coupists, counter stronger force.

Factos
The President only last month used the Assembly to alter the Constitution to extend his stay in office.
Kastonkastroll:
Can you imagine. Paul kigame is doing good with Rwanda but apart from him, you can't pinpoint any African leader that is doing extremely well.
I understand he chose to step down in April nonetheless but picked his protege with the Commission surprisingly suspending the opposition strongman for flimsy reasons.
