We ought to have outgrown the madness and left it behind in the last century, but omoooo. This Benin own took everyone by surprise. If we're not careful, Nigeria and Ghana may be the only ones doing the demonic craze by the end of this decade

You made a very valid point here honestly. If the country was good and the kind of government we operate was up to its task, ideally there's no how someone who was paraded for theft and conversion of ₦50m as recent as 2021 will suddenly turn up to be the go-to person for ransom negotiate and rescue of kidnap victims.

It's quite unfortunate Sha. Like if we have working security agmecies who have records, the moment his name came up as being involved in hostage and rescue negotiation; security agents should have warned members of the public to be wary of him.

But then again, if they warn people about his past what will the security agents suggest as alternative to dealing with him? It's not like the security agents will even help victims' families rescue them from kidnappers den without paying ransom sef

And I thought Benin were really enjoying their own democracy going by how peaceful the country has been for a long time now.

Their citizens seem contented and do not necessarily agitate as much as what U would see In Ghana and Nigeria. I doubt the incumbent government even saw the coup coming

Something is spreading across Western Africa, and it's about to send us 200 years backwards.

I have noticed it's mostly a trend in western Africa. Arab afflicted African countries hardly experience coup. From 2020 till date at least 9 different countries have seen successful coups not to talk of the unsuccessful ones.

It will ó.

If u never buy rice, u better go buy it now. They claimed the soldiers have locked all Benin boarders which means goods may not move in and out of the country for as long as the boarder closure lasts.

Military coup is not the solution for West Africa. I don't support it. What I'm against is Nigeria going to conduct unilateral military intervention to restore constitutional order in these countries without the backing of United Nations Security Council.

I don't even know if reshuffling of cabinet will have any effect on Nigeria sef. Nigeria has so many internal security issues and division within the country.

If any powers that be dangle money and power before our people, there's enough division in this country to encourage our people to support such military takeover of power. We are not even in good terms with America as we speak sef.

It looks as if there's been serious shootout in Benin between the soldiers loyal to the Benin president and the coupist faction.....

Who do you blame? Nigerians worship money. What is right or wrong depends on how much you have, and the people you know.

Knowing all these, would you intentionally ignore means that'll give you said money because of "morals and conscience"? Attributes the general public no longer give a fvck about?

All the sanctimonious shii people say online and in public is just them trying to appear "moral", but privately they don't harbor such views. Don't blame the players, blame the game.

It's only a matter of time before the coupists succeed. They attempted a coup in 2024 which failed and they attempted one again this year.

As of this morning there were people on the streets showing solidarity with the coupists.

I hope African politicians would do things right or else they would always see the common man support coupists because of their own corruption and bad governance which will always push people into the hands of coupists.

action and reaction are equal and opposite forces

in the US, a democrat senator is asking the military to disobey illegal orders
africa, particularly sub-Saharan africa, cannot be stuck in this eternal tailspin without any punctuation
it is impossible

if communism starts failing in china, there will be an uprising, coup, whatever you call it
russia, the west, anywhere on planet earth
if a system of governance is failing, people will seek an alternative and opportunists will leverage the dissatisfaction

we've done eight years of buhari
we do eight years of tinubu
then we do eight years of shettima
and then another eight years of a southern disaster

someday there will be a coup and everyone will be scratching their heads trying to figure out the reason when it is blatant
if you put french people in any sub-Saharan african country, there would be uprisings every month
africa's case is just so hopeless that no system will work here
not democracy. not communism. not monarchy. not military rule
revolving door of bullsh*t

now to prevent a coup, tinubu will have to be come down hard on politicos and PEPs
which will create a negative feedback loop that ironically increase the odds of a coup

It is probably poor reporting, most likely a reconnaissance jet was deployed and not a fighter jet.
