When you do things that are normal, it doesn't attract much traction. But when you do controversial things, you get popular quickly.
It appears to develop quick attention, just play on people's religious emotions.

I don't see anything wrong with the cake.

Where is the bold coming from? Where in any of my posts did I suggest that? Are u confusing me with someone else?

My post u quoted simply says I hope Nigeria didn't bomb Benin as it is being rumored online.

I'm hoping Nigeria didn't bomb Benin because by unilaterally doing so, we are giving any bigger country implied permission to bomb us as a sovereign nation over any of our internal issues they decided to intervene militarily.

........We were winning the war against banditry and terrorism until the coup in Niger happened. Nigeria should have restored the democratically elected government, but we allowed politics and internal noise to make us step back.

The aftermath is clear: the military regime in Niger withdrew their troops from the MNJTF, giving terrorists and bandits an easy escape route. They retreat into Niger to evade the Nigerian Army, regroup, and then launch repeated attacks on our country.

We cannot allow a similar situation in the South, especially in the South-West. Thank you, Mr. President, for taking decisive action.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

President Tinubu commends Nigeria's Armed Forces for protecting democracy in Benin Republic

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the gallantry of Nigeria's military on Sunday for responding swiftly to the request by the Government of Benin Republic to save its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who struck at dawn today.

Acting on two separate requests from the Government of Benin, President Tinubu first ordered Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to enter the country and take over the airspace to help dislodge the coup plotters from the National TV and a military camp where they had regrouped.

The Republic of Benin, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Note Verbal, requested immediate Nigerian air support "in view of the urgency and seriousness of the situation and to safeguard the constitutional order, protect national institutions and ensure the security of the population."

In the second request, the authorities in Benin requested the deployment of Nigerian Air Force assets within Beninoise airspace for surveillance and rapid intervention operations under Benin-led coordination.

The Benin government also requested Nigerian ground forces, "strictly for missions approved by the Beninese Command authority in support of the protection of constitutional institutions and the containment of armed Groups."

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said all the requests have been fulfilled, with Nigerian ground forces now in Benin.

"Ours is to comply with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, President Tinubu," he said.

Constitutional order was upended in the Republic of Benin, Nigeria's neighbour, when some soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri announced a coup on Sunday morning. The putschists seized the National TV and claimed they had toppled President Patrice Talon and suspended all democratic institutions.

It took some hours before the government's loyal forces, assisted by Nigeria, took control and flushed out the coup plotters from the National TV.

In his remarks after the restoration of the democratic and constitutional order, President Tinubu saluted the Nigerian armed forces for standing firm as a protector and defender of democracy.

“Today, the Nigerian armed forces stood gallantly as a defender and protector of constitutional order in the Republic of Benin on the invitation of the government. Our armed forces acted within the ambit of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. They have helped stabilise a neighbouring country and have made us proud of their commitment to sustaining our democratic values and ideals since 1999. Nigeria stands firmly with the government and people of the Republic of Benin."

You do realize the report you posted is an official confirmation that Nigeria actually invaded a sovereign nation, right?

Worse even, no part of the official statement mentioned Tinubu consulted with the NASS - he took a unilateral decision to invade a sovereign country on "saving democracy" grounds?

You also realize all our arguments that Trump can't invade Nigeria on "saving Christians" grounds have been rendered invalid, right?

Already, all of the 4 or 5 military dictatorships in West African will increase their hostilities against Nigerians in their domains and particularly consider us threats.

Go on X; many strong APC guys are condemning the bombing.

We handled this one badly. We should never have officially admitted to invading and bombing a sovereign nation. Even the U.S. never does admit to such interference unless classified documents are leaked.

South Africans are having a field day on X, mocking our hitherto claims of Pan-Africanism.

We are stating the same thing. There's a Benin Republic account on X this minute posting hour by hour updates of bombings and shootings going on there.

Coup is treasonable.

Asking a foreign government to invade your country is treasonable.

It's a stalemate.

We should never have admitted it was us bombing - we should have been silent. That's what the U.S. does in Latin America.

..........they called for help, Nigeria responded and delivered. That’s all matter, rest na story bruh.

We can’t allow a repetition of Niger scenario in the South, that ain't gonna happen. ECOWAS Standby Forces are already on ground to clear off the planet, the remaining Coupists.

ECOWAS deploys troops to Benin Republic.

https://www.nairaland.com/8576741/ecowas-orders-immediate-deployment-troops

Good. That's what we should have done as allied/regional forces - not Nigeria going to bomb. Or we could have just bombed as first on the scene then claim it was ECOMOG.

The U.S. does same claiming NATO forces as a buffer.

You know why the U.S. gets a lot of shielding when it breaches sovereignty? It has a NATO buffer.

The U.S. is the chief sponsor of NATO and UN forces so it uses them as cover.

Nigeria is the chief sponsor of ECOWAS forces - we should have used them as cover. That way you shield your citizens from being singled out for scapegoating by military dictatorships and other aggressive West African states.

This is what I mean.

Exactly!

It is understandable if Nigeria joins ECOWAS to deploy troops to Benin as part it's commitment to the regional body and maintaining peace in West African member states.

Nigeria unilaterally dropping bombs in a sovereign nation because we don't want their democratically elected government to fall is not the flex those people goading Nigerian federal government think it is.

The fact that countries like Ghana and Togo are not getting involved in Benin's internal conflict should tell anyone that Nigeria may actually be overstepping it's boundary and may be on the receiving end of such trespass from another country that is militarily superior to us in the future

You are confusing unilaterally with bilaterally

So far it was requested by the legitimate Government of Benin, it is above board

The government of Benin requested for help nah. The Nigerian forces were sent at their government's request to save them from unconstitutional change of government. Nothing controversial about this.

P.S If the government is however successfully toppled and another government is already in place, the equation changes.

Did this accession to Benin's request follow the due process of obtaining approval of the senate as provided in section 5 of the Nigerian constitution?

And how sure are we the legitimate government had not been toppled when the request was made?
