Nothing controversial at all. I don't know why David Hundeyin crowd are crying all over Twitter.
In my opinion, it actually has nothing to do with what David Hundeyin thinks or not.

Ideally irrespective of who made the request or how urgent the request is, the GCFR cannot order Nigerian military for combat duty outside the country without getting the approval of the senate.

The question is: Did the senate sit to delibrate on this deplaoyment of our armed forces to Benin? Was it this afternoon?

BlueRayDick:
Did this accession to Benin's request follow the due process of obtaining approval of the senate as provided in section 5 of the Nigerian constitution?

And how sure are we the legitimate government had not been toppled when the request was made?
When it comes to emergency intervention to save a democratically elected government due process of obtaining senatorial approval will render the intervention useless. Coups fail or succeed over a period of less than 12 hours, usually during the night. If we are to apply that rule, then there would be no need to intervene at all.

How are we sure the legitimate government had been toppled when the request was made?

I'm not sure of anything, I'm only asking a question which answer may actually make the whole situation complicated.

I do not think there's anywhere the constitution says the senate approval can be discarded because of emergency of any of such request.

If we can find reasons to discard due process now, who knows what reasons another government will come up with to jettison following due process over a totally different matter in the future?

Since nobody is sure then we can just wait until there is more clarification.
Abi, how you take see am?

Section 5 of the Constitution says the President, in conjunction with the National Defense Council, can deploy the military on a limited combat mission outside Nigeria if he thinks the country's national security is under imminent threat. The previous section is however clear that he can't declare war on another country without senatorial approval.

Section 5(4)(b) says :

except with the prior approval of the Senate, no member of the armed forces of the Federation shall be deployed on combat duty outside Nigeria.

“Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (4) of this section, the President, in consultation with the National Defence Council, may deploy members of the armed forces of the Federation on a limited combat duty outside Nigeria if he is satisfied that the national security is under imminent threat or danger.”

Fairs then.

I guess the excuse will be that our national security is in danger because some Beninoise decided they do not want to continue practising democracy in their country.

No wam!

You do realize the report you posted is an official confirmation that Nigeria actually invaded a sovereign nation, right?

Worse even, no part of the official statement mentioned Tinubu consulted with the NASS - he took a unilateral decision to invade a sovereign country on "saving democracy" grounds?

You also realize all our arguments that Trump can't invade Nigeria on "saving Christians" grounds have been rendered invalid, right?

Already, all of the 4 or 5 military dictatorships in West African will increase their hostilities against Nigerians in their domains and particularly consider us threats.

Go on X; many strong APC guys are condemning the bombing.

We handled this one badly. We should never have officially admitted to invading and bombing a sovereign nation. Even the U.S. never does admit to such interference unless classified documents are leaked.

South Africans are having a field day on X, mocking our hitherto claims of Pan-Africanism.
Bomb everyone else but jihadi terrorists and extremists killing Nigerian citizens is where they draw the line

You could sense the attempt to twist narrative miles away.

But if the NASS let this slide, which I am certain they will use that excuse, we would have made ourselves enemies of our nearest southern neighbours

So far they requested it, it is a valid intervention

So Nigeria can be big brother to someone in this world?
The Syrian Militia asked for help from the U.S. to fight the Syrian Government which the former accused of persecution of its people.

It was justified by certain quarters and that was the pretext to invade Syria.

Is this begining to ring a bell?

Nigerian organisations (including our current INEC Chairman) have been writing the U.S., seeking intervention to save Nigerian Christians being massacred while the Nigerian state looks on or persecute those who try to defend themselves.

By your own admission and the antecedental example I stated in Syria, Trump is justified to breach our sovereignty and invade us, right, Ibime?

Over 200 Nigerian children are still in capitivity, but the priority of the president is answering the call of foreigners and not that of the parents (Nigerians) of these children still in capitivity..

No he is not

Syrian militia is not Syrian legitimate Government hence the need for corner corner. Secondly there was a civil war and US was actually brazen in its support for the Kurds

There is nowhere a legitimate Govt will call for help that you have to hide about it if you choose to help. Ukraine is one example. Hiding is usually when the party you are supporting has not been elected

Looking at the small payloads they have been dropping on that Benin military barracks, they will be lucky to bring down a tree in Sambisa if they use those bombs on Boko. It is different when you have a stationary target and a known adversary.
