you don't need to put starlink up of the roof.

I have my starlink mini set up on a pole just a little above 4 feet on the ground. I can tell you the truth it goes round the house and the compound. So fast and good. I'm happy I did it myself
Our houses are built differently bro

My Starlink gen 2 went offline just this evening and has been throwing the error message STARLINK UNPLUGGED OR REBOOTING. Decided to send a message to support and Grok ai decided on its own to send me a new gen 3 kit for free after it tried to communicate with my Starlink gen 2 unit and it couldn’t all in less than a few minutes of chatting with it (Grok ai). Elon musk you do well ooo.

My problem now is how to mount it once the gen 3 unit arrives.
Grok ai that i use every day? How did grok ai send you new kit? Or you mean starlink support ? Pls help me understand.
And congrats oh for new kit. We still de gen 2 here 🙆🏾‍♂️

That's true sha. It's only drawback is the lagging during live football matches and also occasional buffering during live matches.., like today arsenal live match, my IPTV frustrated me with occasional buffering. Apart from that, every other thing abt IPTV is owesome
Don't watch epl matches from popular tv stations. They often buffer.
I go to tv stations like in Serbia or Portugal and they don't buffer all match on iptv

Starlink now uses Grok as a first line of support. If it's able to understand your query or issue, it automatically provides a solution. It can actually decide to ship a kit if it believes that's the solution to your problem. Sometimes, the human support members intervene if there's a need to.

Grok is integrated with Starlink support means it can help you out with no human input

Lagos and Abuja are at full capacity, that's why we are struggling with speed down here and why Starlink has currently suspended activation of residential plan. I'm sure more satellites are being added to help us down here

Seriously, u guys are enjoying Starlink for that side ooooo

how close is the dish to you? My house walls interfere with the signal but when I'm outside, it's faster.
Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by johnnyholtby(m): 7:35pm On Dec 07, 2025
Upstairs. Dish mounted outside (on top of my rooftop). I'm merging bands till I get a Gen 2 or Gen 3 router for wireless node.

When you click on contact Starlink support in your Starlink app, the first line of contact is grok ai. It’s only when it cannot find a solution to your problem, that’s when it will link you with a real person for further assistance.

Thanks oo. Starlink gen 3 make sense, just that one has to source for the mount from temu or Aliexpress unlike the gen 2 that has everything in the box from factory. If your gen 2 is still working perfectly, I see no reason in wanting to get the gen 3.

Both of us are facing the same issue. My walls want to finish me, sometimes the WiFi strength will be so poor in my phone that even to get 10Mbps will be like winning a Gold medal in olympic.
Sometimes I will begin to wonder if it's the same starlink other are using is what am also using or Elon musk sent me Temu starlink.
My saving grace is just the ethernet cable that I connected straight from the starlink to a their party router in my sitting room

what's the speed like with the 3rd party router?
Re: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by johnnyholtby(m): 9:17pm On Dec 08, 2025
Mounting point plays a huge factor too. You should be fine if your Mini has a direct line of sight to your devices as thick walls drastically reduce range and speed.

I mounted my Mini close to my window. With my window opened, it sort of creates a direct line of sight to my living room, which helps with range and speed.

Important tip, for the mini, if you're using the built-in router, I highly recommend keeping the WiFi bands (2.4ghz & 5ghz) merged. This helps the mini router and your devices to dynamically choose the best band to latch on. Whenever you're close to the mini, your connected device automatically switches to 5ghz (shorter range but faster speeds) and whenever you're far away from your mini, again your connected device automatically switches to 2.4ghz (longer range but slower speeds).

Bands merging has helped me a lot. The mini router is really smart with WiFi band steering.

If this doesn't help with range and speed, consider getting a mesh router. You can easily split the bands using a mesh router

see the solution to your problem mount your mini dish on the ground like a 3 feet pole. Allow it to face up directly without anything blocking it, it will go round your house better and faster.

What blocks your internet is house aluminium guard or parapet.

I live in a big house, very big house with a land measurement of 100ft by 150 ft, the network goes round all the compound and all the rooms because we mount the dish on the ground.

Try it and get back to me you'll thank me.

Unfortunately, not everybody can mount on the ground. Obstruction plus make men no go steal my starlink huh
