I knew this was coming! So you’ve been hiding under a rock since his inauguration to think ‘Enugu is flourishing’ because he was arm-twisted into joining the coven of witches that is APC abi!? So what happened to all the other APC states….why aren’t they all flourishing as well!?

Irrespective of party affiliations, when you see educated, informed and exposed leaders it's not difficult to know.

The very first interview if Peter Mbah that I listened to confirmed all the qualities I listed above.

So, it's not surprising seeing all the developmental strides happening in Enugu State now.

Leadership qualities are not just about politics and affiliations.

Nigeria is just about seeing seriousness in leadership and governance.

Cab/ taxi would have been a better alternative. But the problem is the cost. To enter cab you need 10k same journey keke will charge 4k or even less. How much are people earning in enugu. The state is so poor economically. People comiing from other state to relax in enugu are the once sustaining the business activities. Like building materials, alcohol and furniture. Outside these only food businesses are moving in enugu.

If the transport system is decentralized. They should put the brt in stock market so that people can invest in it. Or allow smaller model of the same bus to be part of it. So that there will be enough bus and they should work until 1am to bring back night life.

All South East governor's are working and performing very well.

Except Alex Otti constructing sub standard roads.

When will Abia have a good leader.

Otti will be chased out of govt house come 2027.

Even ikpeazu performed better than Otti both Theodore Orji performed better than Otti

It is adequate, but the problem is, Nigerians don't want to pay the kind of money that would make it adequate

Cities around the world that have working brt also get residents of the city to pay city tax for the benefit or high ticketing prices .
And Where would they get the extra money to pay for city tax and high ticket prices.. ?

The country is hard already...

Well, I know you will call me meister tax, but the thing is, all those good transport systems we see overseas, cost a hefty amount of money. IN taxes and in fares.

Our transport system is the way it is because that is what we can afford. IN most cities, na 1990 busses and cars dey form backbone of the transport service, as well as keke. All of them are easy to maintain and easy to fix, and you can use second hand parts to keep them running.

If we want transport system like we see overseas, then we must be prepared to pay high taxes and high fares for them. Or else government go take loans to pay for it...since we are too poor. And when the debt grows, no money to maintain am, and then they go crash...and we would shout poor maintenance culture.

I effing wish it was not so.

Why will it be effective when you joined in burning brand new ones that have just been imported all in the name of protest against SARS.

No city funds its metro system on tax. The government might subsidize but mostly commuters pay the cost. The key here is economies of scale.

It's similar to how electricity billing works. When you want to on your TV might not be when I want to do sane, but accross 10 million people, we can achieve a relatively constant electricity demand that makes it cist effective for the power company to run its generators constantly.

Similarly, funding for City transport will never make sense when you fund it per trip. Rather, if you design it to be the exclusive public road transport, provide comfort and reasonable hygiene using professional cleaners and machines. You attract enough people subscribing to make it run continously on timed rotations and economically.

Kudos to Enugu Government!
Do not forget maintenance workshops. The bus manufacturer should provide maintenance based of SLAs(service level agreements), otherwise you will have or employ mechanics going through a learning curve that will cost you a significant number of buses. Shift that risk to the bus manufacturers. This should have been part of conditions for procurement.

Also a few buses and drivers are kept as reserve to replace faulty ones.

You also need a parking lot, the bus terminal should not double as bus maintenance and bus cleaning facilities, because both activities should be opaque to bus users.

Cities do fund their metro system on a combination of tax and fares.

I mean most countries get their funds from tax. In Nigeria where the minority pays tax and the majority does not, how is the income going to be sustainable. See the problem.

And the costs are enormous. It's because most of you say we are too poor that we don't get a sustainable good transport system.

Is taxi different from keke, bus?

Poor maintenance happens because many of the buses cone from abroad.

So keeping them well maintained costs a lot of money, and since state governments don't want to increase ticket prices, the revenue is never enough to pay for continued maintenance.

We don't have poor maintenance culture. People in this country go to their mechanics even when the car or vehicle is working. It's cost that is the issue

( I hope innoson is supplying the brt busses though)
U are some how correct but I don’t think the bus is from innoson

Dr. Ozor observed that the government has procured 200 CNG-powered BRT buses, alongside 4,000 electric taxis to be assembled locally at ANAMMCO in Enugu, with the first 1,000 taxis ready within three months

There is no transport tax. If you are talking of diverting tax from other sources to fund public transport, that is subsidy. Most European cities have a public transport system that pays for it self more or less. In fact, they are often run by private companies on licence and do turn a profit for them.

When they did same in fct, many of them relocated to the satellite towns.

The real problem is that Nigeria does not have enough industries. If it did, many of the young men would have been working there and getting paid well if the industry is exporting overseas
No!!! The core problem is we keep making babies like rats and it is unsustainable and impossible to employ all of them. Especially in the SE!
