Unconfirmed reports saying that NAF carried out airstrikes in Benin. Btw NAF operational readiness is impressive. Deploying barely under two hours. Probably they were already on standby against insurgent attacks. |

Nigerian Air Force conducts Multiple Precision airstrikes on fleeing coup plotters in Benin Republic By: Zagazola Makama The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out strategic airstrikes on fleeing elements of the recently foiled military coup in the Benin Republic, security sources have confirmed. Zagazola Makama was reliably informed by sources that the operation targeted coup plotters and their equipments attempting to escape Cotonou in armoured vehicles following the swift intervention by loyalist forces in the country. The airstrikes, executed over the past 30 minutes, involved multiple coordinated strikes carried out by Nigerian fighter jets operating within Beninese airspace. “The operation was meticulously planned and executed. Our objectives were clear: neutralize fleeing hostile elements, prevent regrouping, and restore stability in coordination with regional partners,” the sources stated. The sources emphasized that all actions were conducted in conscent of Benin authorities as well as in strict adherence to international protocols to minimise collateral damage while maximising operational impact. Eyewitnesses reported multiple explosions in strategic locations across Cotonou, confirming the effectiveness of the strikes. The sources said that the strikes successfully immobilized the armoured vehicles and disrupted escape routes used by the coup plotters and killing several of them. The intervention comes in the wake of a failed coup led by Lt. Pascal Tigri, who had briefly attempted to dissolve state institutions and seize full military control of Benin Republic. Following the foiled takeover, key insurgent elements attempted to flee southward, prompting Nigeria’s rapid aerial response. “The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to safeguarding regional security and protecting the sovereignty of neighbouring states,” A top Military officer said. “Our operations are intelligence-driven, precise, and aimed at preventing any spillover that could threaten our borders.” Zagazola report that this marks one of the most decisive and high-profile Nigerian Military cross-border operations in recent West African history, illustrating Nigeria’s readiness to act decisively against destabilising threats in the region. Efforts are ongoing to assess the full impact of the airstrikes and to coordinate with Beninese authorities for follow-up operations, including the apprehension of surviving coup plotters. |

Faithful007:Probably knew the coup was going to occur today. That's the only explanation for that quick response. It seems Nigerian and French planes were already on standby in anticipation. |

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE President Tinubu commends Nigeria's Armed Forces for protecting democracy in Benin Republic President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the gallantry of Nigeria's military on Sunday for responding swiftly to the request by the Government of Benin Republic to save its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who struck at dawn today. Acting on two separate requests from the Government of Benin, President Tinubu first ordered Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to enter the country and take over the airspace to help dislodge the coup plotters from the National TV and a military camp where they had regrouped. The Republic of Benin, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Note Verbal, requested immediate Nigerian air support "in view of the urgency and seriousness of the situation and to safeguard the constitutional order, protect national institutions and ensure the security of the population." In the second request, the authorities in Benin requested the deployment of Nigerian Air Force assets within Beninoise airspace for surveillance and rapid intervention operations under Benin-led coordination. The Benin government also requested Nigerian ground forces, "strictly for missions approved by the Beninese Command authority in support of the protection of constitutional institutions and the containment of armed Groups." Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said all the requests have been fulfilled, with Nigerian ground forces now in Benin. "Ours is to comply with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, President Tinubu," he said. Constitutional order was upended in the Republic of Benin, Nigeria's neighbour, when some soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri announced a coup on Sunday morning. The putschists seized the National TV and claimed they had toppled President Patrice Talon and suspended all democratic institutions. It took some hours before the government's loyal forces, assisted by Nigeria, took control and flushed out the coup plotters from the National TV. In his remarks after the restoration of the democratic and constitutional order, President Tinubu saluted the Nigerian armed forces for standing firm as a protector and defender of democracy. “Today, the Nigerian armed forces stood gallantly as a defender and protector of constitutional order in the Republic of Benin on the invitation of the government. Our armed forces acted within the ambit of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. They have helped stabilise a neighbouring country and have made us proud of their commitment to sustaining our democratic values and ideals since 1999. Nigeria stands firmly with the government and people of the Republic of Benin." Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) December 7, 2025 |

Insurgent Ambushes Shut Down Vital N380 Route in Northern Mozambique – Jihadists continue to attack vehicles even when travelling under military escort – The situation may increasingly isolate the northern districts of Cabo Delgado and raise the cost of basic goods By MOZTIMES Pemba (MOZTIMES) – A series of insurgent attacks recorded last week along National Road Number 380 (N380) has forced road transport operators to divert traffic to the Nairoto route, now used to reach Mueda from Pemba or Nampula, and vice versa. On Saturday and Sunday, transporters stopped using the N380 altogether. However, the Nairoto route is longer and consists of a dirt road, which becomes almost impassable during the current rainy season. The attacks occur mainly along the stretch between the Macomia district capital and the Awasse crossroads, specifically between the villages of Chitunda and Xitaxi. This area is covered by dense forests, which limit long-distance visibility for motorists and facilitate insurgent ambushes. On Thursday and Friday (4-5 December), insurgents attacked convoys transporting passengers and goods under military escort. Images circulating in Cabo Delgado discussion groups show cargo trucks vandalised by insurgents and goods looted. The presence of soldiers and police officers in the escort has not deterred the Islamic State affiliated jihadists, who have extensive knowledge of the terrain. The insurgents fire high-calibre weapons, such as RPG-3 and PKM, or detonate explosive devices, causing vehicles in the convoy to scatter. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Thursday and Friday attacks, stating that its fighters used explosive devices and machine guns to strike a patrol of Mozambican and Rwandan forces, injuring some officers and seizing equipment. “Soldiers and police also flee when the convoy comes under ambush by the terrorists,” said a driver who was travelling in the convoy attacked on Friday. Last week’s attacks resulted in no reported casualties, but material damage was substantial. The N380 is the only paved road linking the northern districts of Cabo Delgado (Mueda, Nangade, Mocímboa da Praia and Palma) to the southern part of the province, including the provincial capital Pemba, and to the neighbouring province of Nampula. Most goods supplied to northern Cabo Delgado come from the ports of Pemba and Nacala, and the interruption of traffic along the N380 limits supply and drives up prices. The situation also affects humanitarian assistance transported by road. The resumption of natural gas exploration projects is increasing the movement of people and goods to the northern districts of Cabo Delgado, which heightens vulnerability to attacks. | Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 2:34pm On Dec 10, 2025 |
Baller254:Considering the equipment, America spent 20 years in Afghanistan and the very day the Americans left the Taliban took power, Cosidering the equipment, Russia has been fighting in Ukraine for 4 years. Cosidering the equipment, Isreal spent 2 years and 2 months in Gaza, almost flattened the penninsula, and still could not defeat Hamas. Some of you come online, make comments without thinking. Especially for the guys who visit the military threads on nairaland regularly, you sound just as ignorant as the IBOP clowns on twitter. Do Better!! |

kabe1:What sense is your comparison? Afghanistan is not inside America, Hamas is not controlling territory inside Israel, those insurgents are not freely operating inside those countries |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 5:45pm On Dec 10, 2025 |
Baller254:This is a very, very dumb take! So Nigeria has more military resources than the US and Israel or Russia. "Who told you insurgents operate freely in Nigeria?" Do you not read any of the thousands of press releases from the army and Air Force? You guys come in hear talk trash on the Internet and go about your day. Is there any insurgent in your house? |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Faithful007: 7:36pm On Dec 10, 2025 |
kabe1:Since the time of Bush, keeping US troops in Afghanistan was politically unpopular with the American public. Less than 3000 troops were in Afghanistan at the beginning of 2021. Obama literally campaigned on Afghanistan troop withdrawal. If the US wants to erase anything Taliban from the earth. It will happen just at a bigger cost which the American public will not tolerate. Similar case for Israel. Occupying a foreign territory is politically difficult and even the US has its red lines for Israel, not to talk of risking tensions with pro-hamas countries like Iran. Btw Israel has never fully occupied Gaza. Remove political issues. Those groups will disappear. Where are ISIS and Al-Queda today? |

kabe1:I doubt. If they knew they should have carried out preventive measures. The French ISR planes in the region were there already tracking JNIM activity. |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 7:54pm On Dec 10, 2025 |
Faithful007:In Syria, Iraq, Somalia and West Africa. Unfortunately the points you mentioned for US and Israeli failure in their operations do not hold water. The Taliban took over Afghanistan despite the US presence in the country. What resources does Nigeria have to make any meaningful difference. Nigeria does not have even a fraction of the resources the Americans had in Afghanistan. Infact the Air campaign over Libya to topple Ghaddafi we don't even have that at our best strength. The comment about insurgents moving freely is just as ignorant as they come(not to you). |
| Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 7:57pm On Dec 10, 2025 |
Faithful007:Possibly. We can only make assessments based on the information available. However there was a call between the Nigerian and French President on the day of the coup, so it was mostly likely there was intelligence prior to that day. |
