Alot of parents hardly teach their kids safety tips to avoid being hit by vehicles on the road.
Kids are innocent and if you don't teach them, how do you expect them to know.
In those days when we were kids,we were taught that if you want to cross the main road, you look right, you look left, you look right again before you finally cross the road.
Several other useful tips are necessary to avoid accident on the road to kids as it can be catastrophic if it happens as it can occur here in Nigeria or in the diaspora.

When trying to cross the road, don't stand behind a parked vehicle which might block your clear view of the road

It's totally fine to hold the hand of an adult you know, but definitely not a stranger's hand. Also, a kid should really be over 12 before you let them cross the road by themselves. By that age, they should be smart enough to ask someone nearby for help or just wait for other people so they can cross safely with the crowd.

Most kids are likely to come across strangers when crossing the road as their parents are busy with office or business activities.

Honestly, no business hustle should ever stop one of you from dropping off and picking up the kid until they're old enough. I mean, only school trips should take them that far—not running out to buy stuff. Just picture a four-year-old girl running right up to a kidnapper to hold their hand? That's just too easy for them.

You could take your child to school as early as 5 or 6 AM and arrange for someone totally trustworthy and accountable to handle their pickup. Anything you need that isn't right near your place should be bought in bulk or saved for when a parent goes to the mall. It's just too risky having kids out on the roads, especially in this country.

It's quite scary but it depends if the parents are financially okay and situation like this also occur for Nigerians living abroad as they hardly have time for themselves.
I get your point though.
