It’s very glaring now when you look at how Talon slowly converted Benin into an almost one party state. Opposition got neutralized by all means through legal and political means until dissent practically disappeared. The same script is unfolding in Nigeria. Instead of focusing on governance, Tinubu's priority is coercing or enticing opposition members into defecting and joining APC thereby weakening the only counterbalance to power.

The judiciary looks compromised, acting more like an extension of the executive than an independent branch and the legislature has become little more than a stamp machine. When all arms of government align under one interest, democracygradually turns to autocracy.

It's true we've not gotten to the level of jailing opposition leaders and all, but the trajectory is alarmingly familiar.

Yea, Wike's hand has surely been weakened, but he didn't lose out now, he lost when he couldn't bring Fubara to order until Tinubu stepped in...all this one na just BAT consolidating e victory.

At this point Wike is very very dispensable, though I doubt BAT would replace a battle-tested general like Wike for a disloyal upstart in the person of Fubara.
