A lot of people hardly leave inheritance to their children because their obsession is survival and not succession.

Yet people keep selling their great grandfathers land to japa

Face reality
Agriculture is the reality. It is the future.

With agriculture, there's distribution of wealth.
One can never be poor.

I disagree.
If every African countries start big time commercial farming, there will be food surplus.
By then, farmers will be running at lost.
If for any reason you want to go into Agriculture, chose cash crop farming.

Nigeria was never rich.

Even in the 1960s that a lot of people like to say we were rich, access to good roads , electricity, potable water and even schools was very poor .

The only people who enjoyed were the very tiny educated class and even the tinier upper class.

By the time when our population started rising beyond where our revenue could sustain it..issues started
Remember when foods were in abundance and dirt cheap? Yes! Nigeria was rich.

That's a good idea, we have plenty of them back at home, we'd even share some of the fruits with our relatives and neighbours.
Honestly, food should be the least of our problems in Africa.

No. Even in the 1980s and 90s food was expensive then. Rice was a luxury back in the 1960s self.

Nigeria was never good. It has been from bad to.worse.

The issue is, we don't do mechanized agric. Instead the backbone of our agriculture is subsistence farming and importation. That's why food is never enough

Well, me, I remember clearly when beans, rice, yam, sweet potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onions, eggs, etc, were cheap and it wasn't even that too long ago.

Beans was even considered broke man's food.

He said that witches and wizard the come do meeting there and that is why he is not successful.

That can only happen when you don't travel to your land from time to time.
Your presence matter.
Those that stay in the village
They are harvesting their plantain while the tree is still standing.

As for going to the village regularly

You may not be able to leave any inheritance [properties and all] for your future generation, but you can do this: plant fruit trees.

Yes, you read right!

Plant fruit trees to leave to your future generation, and in 5-7 years time, you will begin to reap the fruit of your labour, and those after you will eat of the fruits, and thank you.

Own something in your lifetime. Even if it is a fruit tree.

Food has always been expensive down south, because of transportation and preservation.

Good advice. In Islam, this action is part of what is called sadaqah jariya meaning continuous charity that one would continue to benefit even after death. Our noble religion teaches us that even if Armageddon is few moments away, and you have the opportunity to plant a seed you should quickly do and you'd be rewarded. Let's plant trees, let's build school, boreholes, toilets for the benefit of humanity

... because the south depended on the north for food.
Even at that, it was still cheap.

Education remains the best inheritance and legacy. A child you did not train will end up uprooting your fruit tree, cut it into firewoods and sell them off.

Everything is in deep parables. Including your submission.

Yet, the older generation respected nature [trees and all] more than the present generation.
You think learning is only done within the four walls of a school?
Life itself is a school.

How about we do one without leaving the other?
