The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has revealed why he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

DAILY POST reports that the governor had earlier in the week, announced his defection from the main opposition party to APC.

Speaking at the government house in Port Harcourt on Friday while receiving the APC membership card from the party’s chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, the governor said his decision was to align with President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The governor described the move as “spiritual assignment”, stressing that joining the APC gives the state opportunity to have a good working relationship with the president.

“As you have said, this is indeed a spiritual assignment because it concerns the safety, progress, and growth of Rivers State.

“We cannot pursue a different direction when the President is pursuing another.

“Joining the APC is part of our commitment to ensure a seamless working relationship and to contribute meaningfully to his reelection efforts in Rivers State”, he said.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the warm reception, noting that his decision to align with the APC was made in the interest of the state’s stability and development.

He further pledged to strengthen the APC in the state, assuring that the party structure, members, and executives would receive his total support.

“This is now your home, Mr Chairman. You are welcome here anytime. We will keep the APC active and fully functional in Rivers State, and every need of the party will be taken care of,” Governor Fubara affirmed.

Ipobidients don't see it so. They are jubilating. The best party for Fubara to join if he decides to leave the PDP would have been any party other than the APC if he desires to run for a second term. APC and PDP are in complete control of Wike. And Fubara is not helping self. He doesn't know what to say at the right time.

Can you see how those who support Fubara reason? Which men? Fubara doesn't have one assembly member supporting him. Not just one out of 30. In the Rivers State APC executives not just one person. Not just one LGA Chairman of all the LGAs won by the APC.

24hrs is a long time in politics. Even if they'd give him second term, he'll still not have the control of the house- they'll use that to whip him in line when he tries to be unruly again. They can't trust him again.
