Why You Should Be Careful With People Who Always Turn On Disappearing Messages by giftson102(op): 10:54am On Dec 13, 2025
This is a serious caution.

If you are chatting with someone who always insists on turning on disappearing messages, don’t ignore it. It is not just a WhatsApp setting. It is a deliberate choice and often a dangerous one.

Disappearing messages erase conversations automatically and in real life, what has no record is hard to prove. In law, chats are frequently used to establish:
🥢 Agreements
🥢 Instructions
🥢 Promises
🥢 Financial arrangements
🥢 Threats or admissions
When the messages vanish, your proof vanishes with it.

Let this be clear

Turning on disappearing messages is not illegal but when someone insists on it for:

🥢 Business discussions
🥢 Money matters
🥢 Work arrangements
🥢 Sensitive commitments
That is a red flag you should not ignore.

What this means for you
🥢 If the issue later becomes serious and there is no evidence, the law will ask: Where is your proof?
🥢 Courts rely on records, not explanations.
🥢 Verbal claims rarely survive without documentation.

Protect yourself

Do not discuss serious matters on disappearing chats.

Insist on written confirmation for any agreement.

Save records where the law allows.

Be cautious with people who fear transparency.
Silence deletes accountability. Transparency protects everyone. This warning may save you from future trouble.

When I start a chat with someone, I always inform them ahead that I will like to trun off the disappearing message function... But if i come back and see all our chat are deleted, that's the end.
My turn off is people that don't have any picture on their profile... Who are you?

God knows I hate all those extra settings: turning on disappearing button, turning off online/offline status, turning off blue marks or even double strikes. I mean, why hiding?

You can ask well turn it off from your own end.
If her/his copy disappeared, you will still have your own copy.

How is a profile picture the basis of identifying someone who is already in your contacts list?

I think WhatsApp should make it applicable to the party that sets it on. The other party should still be able to see it.
Na you no wan see am, no be me.

exactly, I believe people with ulterior motives do this nonsense. Once I see disappearing messages I completely distrust the person, same as viewing my status without me knowing.

I don’t have my disappearing messages enabled but I want to ask why do you people like to major on minors on minor on majors? What is your business if someone decides to turn off his read receipts or last seen etc? Why does this thing pain some of you? You even to ahead to make poetic quotes online just because you’re not sure if someone read your messages or because you don’t know when last the person was online…you now project your insecurities on that person rest bikonu

You can screenshot the important messages like between you and a house agent or whatever and move on

This is a very important reminder. Many people see disappearing messages as ‘privacy,’ but in serious matters, records are protection. If someone insists on no trail for business or money discussions, that alone should make you pause. Transparency protects both sides. Who else has noticed this becoming more common lately?

i wish whatsapp has automatic call recorder.....
all my audio calls are recorded amd the reason i turned it on was that someone denied a discussion on phone call and inhad nothing to prove about the call.....

I use it because I don't like 90% of WhatsApp messages and I want memory space on my phone.

People would say things on WhatsApp that they can't even say in cellular or real life. When they see that disappearing message, they become a little more serious and straight forward.

Honestly for me it has always been one of the red flags I watch out for in dealing with people. In fact the most serious one is someone sharing pictures that I can only open ones, Omo, I avoid them like a plague.
