Why Yoruba Land In West Africa Must Be United by lawani(op): 10:51am On Dec 13, 2025
Why Yoruba land in west Africa should be united

If Germany, divided by the victors of the second world war, can reunite, then there is no reason why Yoruba land divided into several countries in west Africa during the colonial era should remain divided after colonisation. The same applies to Hausa land, Igbo land and etc. The most valid basis of organizing the Earth is by ethnicity before any other thing. Every ethnicity should have autonomy over their affairs and if they can't stay alone as a sovereign country they should decide who to align with and they should also be able to opt out of any alliance that they don't want.
Yoruba is huge and there are more people of Yoruba descent in the Americas than in west Africa just like there are more Irish in the Americas than in Ireland It is a shame that the Yoruba are locked in a country like Nigeria where interests can not be aligned and where something as basic as security can not be gotten right amongst other defects.

There is no part of Nigeria that is poor and that should be afraid of a breakup. What is missing is the joining of hands via taxation to solve basic problems like education and healthcare. Northern Nigeria is not poor. They, for instance, consume about sixty percent of the cement produced in the country and it is unlikely their population is up to sixty percent of the total. They are therefore not poor but they need to join hands together. No part of Nigeria should be afraid of a breakup of the country. Look inwards as a group and develop your strengths, protect your identity, lift up your people and etc

I have said this same thing before as an Igbo man but the problem now is are the Yorubas in Nigeria ready to leave fighting the Igbos and supporting the project 1 Nigeria and backing the Fulanis to invade west Africa?

Igbos fought war for 3 and half years to leave Nigeria, MNK is prison today for the same thing, many Igbos have been killed in their land by Nigerian government for the same thing, Igbos lost about 3 million of their people for the same thing...

What have the Yorubas done in that regard?

The average Yoruba believes a separate Yoruba nation is the best. There are several movements pursuing the goal. It will come to pass eventually. Sooner than later.

I read somewhere that there are around 50 Yoruba towns in Ghana. I wonder how true that is

Then why are most of your people happy that Igbos have not gotten Biafra?

That's why Tinubu government and Yoruba judge jailed Kanu for wanting a separate country.

What they usually say is that Igbos should do it the right way. There is nothing for a Yoruba to be happy about in Igbos not getting Biafra. Boko Haram also wants the country to break up. It is not only Ipob, Yoruba nation movement and etc

KANU did wrong. His approach was wrong. However he will eventually be released. That is for certain. He has become the face of Biafra.

They say if they are serious, their leaders should take charge of the quest. Actually Nigeria is not difficult to break up. All that is needed is to appeal to the right powers and there are many Nigerians from all over with the right connections. Even one person is enough.

Yes he did wrong in the eyes of Yorubas and hawusafulani, that's why Tinubu government and Yoruba judge jailed him.

I wonder why Igbo people you people said he wronged never see any wrong he did.

But enemies of Igbos saw wrong he did to Igbos.

You mean like how all Eastern leaders did in 1967,yet Yorubas and hawusafulani came down to East and fought three years with the help of Britain the real owners of Nigeria?

Oh so you don't know why your own people have not done something you call the right way but you claim they are serious about leaving Nigeria.

but then you are blaming the Igbos for doing it their own way and calling it the wrong way, if your way was right why hasn't anyone tried it?

There are many Igbos that agree his approach was wrong. The activities of his group led to many deaths and up till now they hold the east by the jugular with the Monday sit at homes. I for one do not agree with his approach. You can fight for Igbos without attacking or insulting others because Igbos still need to live with others. I don't by any means agree with his approach

The west and Midwest did not allow their land to be used to attack Biafra until Biafra forced them into the war by invading their land. Always remember that. Biafra dragged the west and the Midwest into the war. What support do you want more than refusing the use of our land to attack you?

I did not claim they are serious or more serious than the Biafrans. I said there are Yoruba groups agitating for Nigeria to break up. I did not blame Igbos for doing it the wrong way. I said Yorubas who you say oppose Biafra don't really oppose Biafra. At least most of them. They only say your leaders should lead it instead of the needless killings and etc.

So the war was between Biafra and who?

You don't judge by opinion of percentage that not up to 2%.

Majority of Igbos support Mazi Nnamdi kanu.

His activities did not lead to death of many people as you claim, rather your lovely Nigeria government murdered hundreds just to stop his activities.

You blame Mazi Nnamdi kanu but never blame your Nigeria government and soldiers that did the killings.

Can you tell us why sit at home come in play in South East?

Why was sit at home introduced in South East.

So the war was between Biafra and who?
Nigeria was three regions then four and all were suspicious of each other. Colonel Ejoor said repeatedly that he will not allow action via the Midwest against Biafra. Awo got all Northern troops out of the west and they stationed themselves in Ilorin. The Nigerian army was only attacking Biafra from the North. What support again was Biafra looking for?. It was a terrible miscalculation to expect that the Biafran invaders would be met with dancing in the west and midwest.Someone like you has not learnt from the mistake. Attack coming against Biafra from the south was caused by Biafra and it is not sensible to blame those who defended their land for it. The problem was between the North and the East originally and the west and mw were doing their best for Biafra but they will not submit to Biafran overlordship. You opened a fresh warfront and lost then blame Yorubas and mw for that?

Read 90% of the comments on Nairaland and see those who talk down on Biafra and MNK, they are mostly Yorubas, the Yoruba groups agitating for break up are are very small in population among the Yorubas who still want 1 Nigeria, try and do a poll here and see how many Yorubas want to leave Nigeria...

About the killings, most of the killings are retaliatory, especially the ones done to security operatives, you can't come to my land kill my people unjustly and think they will go scott free, the Nigerian government caused a lot of death on security operatives in the south east, though I don't support any form of unjust killings...

I am yet to see any seriousness on the side of the Yorubas that they actually want to leave Nigeria...
