I thought smart TV are also Android TV. I'm presently using that TCL Android TV. And it's good. It's a smart TV 32 inches

android TV is better and more expensive.

Also it has more functions compared to Smart TV.


Smart TV is like a java television, while Andriod tv is an android television.

The difference is in the operating system. Its android operating system for some tv which is refered to as android tv or vida operating system for hisense tv , web operating system for lg tv and tizen operating system for samsung. But mind you all these are also called smart tv in general.

Android TV is a type of smart TV basically any TV connected to the internet is a smart TV. Please rephrase your question and you are welcome.

Apart from being able to download your favourite apps, Android TVs also come with bigger storage capacities than smart TVs.

You can download movies (maybe on YouTube app or other movie apps) and then come back to watch them later offline, without internet connection.

You can install your football streaming apps and watch live on your tv instead of watching via mobile device or casting from mobile device.

Android TV is better but make sure the android version isn't obsolete

Buy android tv no matter what. What you can do is unlimited. Even people with lg or Samsung or visas still go ahead to by Roku android tv box.

They are all smart TV's, the difference is the Operating system or software just like we have in mobile phones.

Examples.....

LG runs on Traditional Webos Operating System or Android OS

Samsun runs on Tizen OS or Android OS.

The difference is flexibility and ability to download wide range of applications from both OS.

Verdict: Android OS is better.

All android TVs are smart TV but not all smart TVs are android TVs. Smart TVs OS are mainly manufacturers specific as such the available apps are somehow limited and determined by manufacturers unlike android.

And for those asking of what uses are apps on an android TV when there are more than enough app on your phones already? Android TV offers a lot of choice in apps selection. Apps like onstream can give you good video contents be it action movies, commentary, or any other program with sleek subtitles and preferred country choices of movies, unlike the trashes on YouTube. Lots of kids learning apps like khan academy and others, For me I prefer android TV by far anytime anyday.

Don't buy any of them,, they are over priced and once the wahala starts it can be very difficult to fix effectively. Buy a very good HD normal tv for a lot less and buy an android dongle from Airtel 25k this will make your TV an android tv for less and more reliable for the long run. FYI Android tv is beta than smart by a mile

Rapidstreamz etc and with reliable internet you won't sub DStv ever again

None that I know of but the Airtel version is quite good make you TV a full android phone with all the functionality, it is also a fast router that can hotspot and connect a number of devices

Thanks for the app recommendations.I noticed one needs to pay to view programmes on onstream app and Youcine TV .Please if you wouldn't mind drop some more android apps. I want to finally discard my dstv

Onstream is totally free
Youcine is free for 3 days for movies but live streaming of matches is free all times

Cos if you are just saying smart TV and Android TV
.. they are virtually the same thing. That's like asking which is better between a TV and a TV.
