Shettima: Why Nigerians In London Walk With ‘cocky Arrogance’ by dre11(op): 6:14am On Dec 14, 2025
Vice-President Kashim Shettima says when one walks into a Nigerian in London, it’s easy to trace where he or she comes from because they walk with “cocky arrogance”.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, 2025, held at the the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, Shettima said Nigerians exude confidence wherever they find themselves.

He said this administration will not allow Nigeria to fail, no matter what, because if Nigeria fails, the black race has failed and it will affect the world over.

“Let us believe in this country; this country has to work. This is the greatest black nation on Earth. If Nigeria fails the black race has failed and we cannot afford to fail because it is a hope of the black race.”

“The hope of the black man rests with Nigeria, because Nigeria is economically enterprising, geographically mobile and economically proficient.

What binds us together supersedes what divides us. For instance, if you see a Nigerian on the streets of London you don’t need a soothsayer to tell you this is a Nigerian, because we walk with cocky arrogance.

“We don’t give way to a white man when we meet along the street… When I embarrassed myself at the NBA forum, I went and bought some good suits, but at international events, I come out in my native wear(babanriga).

“So, it is in the best interest of the black race and the best interest of the world for Nigeria to work,” he said.

In his remarks, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, said the security conditions in the state has improved compared with last year, pointed out however that significant challenges remain.

“By the grace of God, the security situation on the Plateau today is not yet Uhuru, but it is better than where we were last year. We continue to face challenges, but together, I am sure we have sufficient will to surmount them,” he said.

He credited President Bola Tinubu, the military and other security agencies for what he described as their doggedness and sustained support to the state, adding that recent security assessments and policy submissions by the institute had been useful to the government.

Like the commenter above me observed, Nigerians in Nigeria are a bunch of defeated people who don't know what they deserve. That's probably why the VP used those in diaspora as an example.

what concerns him with arrogance of Nigerians, is that supposed to be a security committee or a security arrangement to curb insecurity or to develop our economy?

Confidence is one thing, "Arrogance"/ cockiness, especially in someone else's country is never a good thing., it can clash with other, more reserved cultures , generally people are put off by these traits

Why not, if we are living in London houses bought with money that should have employed workers to make government services and utilities available for 200 million Nigerians in the 36 states and FCT?

PANDORA PAPERS: Buhari visited Tinubu in corruption-tainted London villa acquired by Oyetola

Governor Oyetola, a relative of Mr Tinubu, may have sabotaged his own country by buying the exotic property as Nigeria made to seize it.

ByNicholas IbekweandTaiwo-Hassan Adebayo October 7, 2021 in Headline Stories, Pandora Papers Reading Time: 8 mins read

It was a meeting of two of Nigeria’s most influential politicians in London – President Muhammadu Buhari was visiting political kingmaker and senior member of his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

In July, the presidency announced that Mr Buhari was heading to London for an education summit. The office also added that the president would also see his doctors for “medical check-up”.

Coincidentally, Mr Tinubu, who had travelled to London earlier, was also receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in the British capital. So, a perfect setting for both men to meet was created.

keep kwayet sad

To be cocky arrogant could be relative sad

It could be used in a pleasant or unpleasant remark.

One who knows his/her self worth, and has really done so well in his/her field or in certain areas of life, is technically cocky arrogant.

These are people who necessarily don't need your validation to announce their presence.

Even the VP is directly or in indirectly cocky arrogant as a result of the status he's attained.

Why not fix your country and these guys will come back and be happy in Nigeria.
They are all in London because of how you the Politician's destroyed this country and turned it into a Somalia and Afghanistan Since 2015.
