Why bring Russia into this
Nigeria and Russia are in good terms
Russia as at present is losing soldiers in Ukraine and buying soldiers from Africa and other countries
So let say war broke out between Nigeria and Bukina....Nigeria has more allies than Bukina and military rules in Bukina right now does not enjoy popular support in Africa
That means you are not current, Who do you think is backing Burkina faso

You think Burkina will fight alone, Nigerians know very liitle about war, Nigeria is not capable of fighting wars at the moment because a lot of our corrupt politicians will see it as an avenue to get rich.
What's this?
Nigerian know very little about war?
A little gist for you...

In 2014, we were in the same camp with this Burkinababes along side other African countries including the US in Peace Keeping Mission in the state of El dein in Sudan....
Do you know that upon all the artillery of this Burkinababes, it was the Nigerian IEscort that every VIP visiting those camps would want to go with?
There were some instances of ambush here and there with some of the Sudanese repels but those Guys were safe with the Naija esco6.
There were some instances, those other guys will go out with their large convoy only to withdraw at the slightest threat from repels but you see Nigerian IEscort or convoy, they don't go and withdraw until there done .
There were certain times, those guys would tell us, "We know that your vehicle or two would likely breakdown on the way as we are going but we feel safe going with you guys".
Nigerian Army is no joke when it comes to this thing coupled with the good supplies of weapons and when you know that you are well paid, you see the best of our soldiers.
I remember what one of the American soldiers, a friend of mine once told me, "We respect the Nigerian Infantry alot cuz where the American soldiers use machines and gadgets to enter, the Nigerian soldiers chart through using their legs, if the Nigerian Army have access to half of the Machines and Gadgets that the US Army has, It will be one of the best in the world but even at that, you guys are the most dangerous land forces in Africa as a whole".

Am not gisting as a story teller but as an insider........I am a pilot on land not of the air....
We cover kilometers in more than 4 states in Sudan, I met with other countries contingent in Africa and the Middle East and I can tell you the respect they gave us over there.....
Anywhere we go, one thing about the Nigerian Army always stood out and they will ask us how we do it... what was that thing? (D CONFIDENCE).....where others fear to enter, We move in and set Camp.

We don't pray for War in Africa, we can fool ourselves here in Nigeria but you see all these small countries making noise, if anything happens, Nigerian Army no get mate for here..
Whether you believe or not, pray it doesn't happen.... killing and destroying our ourselves and properties are not the best.
We pray for Peace.

The Nigerian Army and War is 5 & 6 but on insurgency in our own land, many things are involved but certainly an end is in sight. We just hope proper thing are being done to stop all this rubbish.

Many people underestimate the capabilities of the Nigerian military and what it could mean for the government of Burkina Faso under Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Don't be misled by Nigeria's ongoing internal security challenges—fighting Fulani herdsmen clashes, kidnappers, bandits, and jihadist insurgents in the North, or separatist agitation in the East involving IPOB and unknown gunmen. These are asymmetric insurgencies, complicated by local sympathies and complex socio-political dynamics that make total eradication difficult without massive collateral impact. No advanced military in the world easily wins such protracted internal wars.

In stark contrast, a direct confrontation with Burkina Faso would be conventional (symmetric) warfare. The Nigerian Armed Forces—Africa's largest by personnel, with superior airpower, logistics, and combat experience—have the overwhelming potential to overrun Burkina Faso's smaller military and, if provoked far enough, enforce regime change in Ouagadougou.

Dismiss any notion that Russia's support for Traoré would deter this. Nigeria could establish theater commands in neighboring countries like Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, and Togo for a multi-front operation, leveraging regional alliances and superior resources.

This detention risks escalating a diplomatic incident into something far more dangerous. Traoré's supporters—often vocal online pan-Africanists and certain political factions—may cheer the bravado now, but they would have plenty to lament if things spiral out of control.

Personnel and Financial Power
Nigeria maintains overwhelming dominance in manpower and funding. It commands a force of approximately 230,000 active personnel, backed by 50,000 paramilitary members, totaling over 280,000 personnel. Burkina Faso, in stark contrast, has only about 16,500 active personnel and 4,500 paramilitary members, making Nigeria’s force nearly 14 times larger. Financially, Nigeria’s defense budget is approximately $3.16 billion USD, which is roughly 38 times larger than Burkina Faso’s budget of $81.28 million USD.
Nigerian army soldiers are not up to 70,000 and of this, less than 35000 are infantry.

OP. Don't be surprised by the Hate coming from your fellow Nigerians. These are the unpatriotic elements (especially from a particular section of the country) spewing forth negatives just to run the country down.
Their hatred for Tinubu translates to supporting Burkina Faso. See as they shamelessly support an illega junta holding 11 Nigerian soldiers captive.
You can't see such happening anywhere in the world except Nigeria. Ever since the successful thwarting of the Benin Rep coup, they've ramped up their vitriol on X, opening supporting Traore to imprison or even kill Nigerian soldiers.
Even if the Nigerian plane entered their airspace unannounced, does that give Burkina Faso the right to detain them this long just to show off bravado? No one is saying what Nigeria did was right but refusing international mediation for prompt release so as to milk the situation for what it's worth and show off as being a power is totally off it. Their time never reach.
Whatever you may think of Nigeria, Burkina Faso and the entire AES coalition is no match for us, Boko-haram or ISWAP be damned. Nigeria is the only regional superpower in West Africa and most of Sub Sahara Africa.
Nigeria won't be rushed into acting rashly. She will continue to pursue mediation and dialogue until that's longer becomes feasible, then Nigeria will act forcefully as it is her right to do so.
Anyone hoping or believing that Russia would join BF to fight Nigeria must be naive indeed.

Nigeria will fight Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali at the same time and it won’t be that easy. Nigeria military capability is greatly exaggerated compared to other African countries.
We are made to believe Nigeria can overrun these countries within days. Wars are unpredictable often come with economic challenges. A struggling economy like ours shouldn’t be involved in wars with our neighbours. Diplomacy is the solution. The government must continue to engage Burkina government for an amicable solution.
What did we even go there to do in the first place. Our action is provocative. Let’s thread carefully.

Secondly, don't forget that Burkina Faso is not alone in this. Burkina Faso in now in alliance with more than 5 countries in Africa, so before you start chest beating in support of your Nigerian army, remember that it's not going to be easy for Nigerian government and their army because they will end up fighting in multiple fronts.

And tinibu is channeling every resources at his disposal on 2027 election which means, he is not ready to wage any war now that 2027 election in around the corner.

Lastly, if Nigerian government should go to war against Burkina Faso regardless of the outcome, Russia might use that as an avenue to help Biafra agitators in fighting for Biafra just to get back at Nigeria. And you know that Nigeria has succeeded in making many of their citizens not to be patriotic due to so many injustices and marginalisation.

That's why it's good for a country to treat every of her citizens/tribe well so that in time of crisis or war many will choose to die for their country than to sabotage their country.
Imagine forcing me to come fight for Nigeria against Burkina Faso, Friendly fire go surplus 😂😂😂😂

There is nothing Tinubu can do. What happened as far as I am concerned is just to Embarrass Tinubu. On AREWA REPUBLIC on Facebook on Sunday morning I said Benin Republic is not a Sahel country. Later, in the afternoon when they announced the Coup failed someone said Tinubu has made attempt to send NIGERIA to war twice. I reminded him about how Buhari sent NIGERIA to Gambia to force the President to handover.

Why Burkina Faso less than 48 hours of Coup in Benin Republic? Ivory Coast, Ghana and Togo are nearby. This is a disgrace and just to Embarrass Tinubu. There is no Military Signal or discussion in Abuja that is not getting to Traore. I weep for NIGERIA. I pity Tinubu. They will make money, make good Dollars from Nigeria and ridicule NIGERIA.

Whenever you are captured by a big problem or by a powerful enemy , while in Captivity, you are a slave to the weakest enemy. You become a subject of ridicule and mockery to the weakest enemy. Samson in the Bible suffered the same fate . The big problem and powerful enemy here is Nigeria. Nigeria comprises of many nations. Nigeria is a country at war within itself. Nigeria is fighting psychological war with itself. Within Nigeria we have Sahel Nation that is indirectly a member of the Sahel Nations and that is why establishment of US Military Base is being opposed. I will stop here.

When the news came out on nairaland on Tuesday, my response is on the link above.

Later naptu2 came out to give us the Air Force Public announcement. Later, they said they have been released. In my response on the link above I asked some questions and avoided many things.

A Retired General just told us about the death of COAS Attahiru. He told us about leakage of Classified Information when Late General Attahiru was a Theatre Commander prior to his becoming COAS.

There is no discussion or resolutions that is taking place in Abuja that is not getting to Traore. Traore and Sahel Nations are not alone we have Sahel Nation among the nations that makes up NIGERIA. He is not playing with Fire. Tinubu should negotiate as usual as it is done with Bandits. To worsen the matter, the BIAFRA nation within Nigeria is in support of this embarrassment of Tinubu and the disgrace of Nigeria. There's nothing Tinubu can do other than to settle them.
Nigeria needs an intelligent warrior president...can Tinubu step on this shoes?

Can he act when it matters most?

Posterity will tell.

The truths are out there, everyone can trace how this things emerged in Nigeria, bokoharam etc, as the president the bulk stops at Tinubu's Tinubu, Nigerians gave him the trust to manage the resources, to use this to secure lives and properties of all Nigerians, he owes it to Nigerians to act, because security was in his manifesto.

How did you find yourself under their detention? What are you doing in their country without their permission? What's your mission there?
These and more are the questions you should ask Tinubu and his govt.

We have had Presidents who did not threaten any country with war and violence. Why is Tinubu's govt threatening the peace of West Africa by entering that country without permission.

They did not come here to arrest any soldier.
