Enugu Varsity Dismisses Rumours Of Bandit Settlement Near Campus by AnonPoet(op): 4:48am On Dec 15, 2025
The management of Maduka University in Enugu has denied claims suggesting the presence of bandit settlements near its campus.

The university, located in the Ekwegbe community of Igbo-Etiti local government area, labelled the reports as an effort by detractors aimed at sparking fear among prospective students and parents.

In a statement on Sunday, the university stated that a video over which the claim was made inaccurately suggests criminal elements operate in the immediate vicinity of the campus.

The management affirmed that the institution is safe, secure, and fully protected by appropriate security measures.

It urged the public to entirely disregard the “false alarm,” confirming that the campus continues to operate normally with a secure and conducive learning environment.

The university said it remains committed to student and staff safety, maintaining that it will continue to liaise with relevant security agencies to ensure the campus remains secure.

The university also addressed what it termed “false and damaging reports circulating online” regarding the death of one of its nursing students, stating it owed the public an accurate account of the incident.

The management clarified that the student arrived at the medical center in an unhealthy condition via the hospital ambulance, not on foot or with friends as speculated, and that the claim of administering a diclofenac injection is entirely false.

Upon arrival around 9:30 pm, the doctor on duty evaluated the student, carried out necessary investigations, administered appropriate medication, and made a working diagnosis.

The management said the student initially responded well and was placed under continuous monitoring with full nursing attention.

However, her condition suddenly deteriorated around 4:00 am.

The management said the nurses promptly alerted the doctor, and the student was quickly transferred in the university’s 24-hour ambulance to another hospital for expanded emergency management.

The university debunked the allegation that the doctor acted as the ambulance driver, confirming its dedicated ambulance service was used for the transfer.

The management also noted that the student had a concealed chronic medical condition, which was not disclosed prior to the emergency and significantly contributed to the ensuing complications.

Maduka University Dismisses Sponsored False Claims About Fulani Bandit Settlements Near Campus, Clears the Air on death of Nursing Student

Maduka University has observed with concern the circulation of a video claiming the presence of Fulani bandit settlements allegedly located near the university. These claims are completely false and a continued attempt in the last 3 years, by detractors to spark fear among potential students, parents, and the community.

The video in question inaccurately suggests that criminal elements operate in the immediate vicinity of the university campus. We wish to categorically state that Maduka University is safe and secure. The campus remains fully protected by appropriate security measures, and there is no basis for the fear being spread.

We urge the public to disregard this false alarm in it's entirety. The university continues to operate normally, with students, staff, and visitors enjoying a secure and conducive learning environment.

Maduka University remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and the surrounding community, and will continue to liaise with relevant security agencies to ensure that the campus remains secure.

We call on all members of the public to remain calm, ignore baseless rumours, and report verified information through official channels.

*The death of Our Nursing Student- Setting the record straight*

We also consider it important to address the false and damaging reports circulating online about the unfortunate death of one of our students. Much of what has been shared is completely untrue, and we owe the public an accurate account of what happened.

First, she was brought to our Medical Center already in an unhealthy condition and she arrived through our hospital ambulance, not on foot or by friends as has been speculated. At no point did we administer diclofenac injection to her. That claim is entirely false.

When she arrived at about 9:30 p.m., our Doctor on Duty immediately evaluated her. We carried out the appropriate investigations, administered the necessary medication, and made a working diagnosis in line with our emergency-care procedures. She responded well to treatment at that stage and was placed under continuous monitoring with full nursing attention throughout the night.

However, at about 4:00 a.m., her condition changed suddenly. Our nurses detected the deterioration right away and promptly alerted the doctor on call. We acted quickly: she was transferred in our 24-hour ambulance to another Hospital for expanded emergency management.

The story that the doctor acted as the ambulance driver is false. We have a dedicated ambulance service with trained personnel, and they were the ones who handled the transfer. That allegation is misleading and does not reflect what happened.

It is also important to note that she had a concealed chronic medical condition which was not disclosed prior to the emergency. This underlying condition significantly contributed to the complications that followed.

We understand the pain her family, friends are feeling, and we share in the grief of losing such a young, promising student.

However, the circulating reports suggesting negligence, wrong medication, or abandonment are false and do not represent the professional actions our medical team took.

We remain committed to providing the highest standard of care for all our students and staff, and will continue to cooperate with the family as they process this painful loss.
We pray God to give the family enough strength to bear the irreparable loss.
It is very unfortunate that, just to continue demarketing the school, someone would go to press with this painful story without questioning the school medical team that were involved.
By His grace, we are determined, and we shall only get better in all areas.

Signed: Management.

It's possible that they never investigated the claim bust rushed to dispute it. It's better to err on the part of caution.

Honestly, it would bring the school down.
This must be the work of competitors or someone who really wants to rubbish the school.

Although the school is in an isolated area, but on the major highway. It has soldiers in their numbers stationed permanently there.
They have been there since the inception of the school to secure the school assets and the staff and students.

School is along the Enugu-Opi road were Fulani bandits kidnap without restraints almost daily. Police comes to exchange fire with the bandits regularly, the retreat inside the little forest at both sides of the road and resurface almost in few hours to continue targeting motorists. It is unclear why Enugu State government is not using the newly acquired drones and forest guards to smoke them out permanently.

For me, I don't know if the news is true or not, but the area the school is located is dreadful.
That very lonely and crime prone stretch of Opi - Enugu Rd spanning more than 30klm is not an area to joke with.
My heart is always in my mouth whenever I hit that road. Even security presence is scanty.
