Is Hard Work Still Enough To Succeed In Nigeria? by Fharahyiola(op): 1:07am On Dec 17, 2025
Serious question.

With unemployment, inflation, and low wages, is hard work alone still enough to succeed in Nigeria today?
Or is luck, connection, or relocation more important now?

Brain work is the key. Check the rich people, they do mostly brain work and less hard work.

The poor people do mostly hardwork with less brainwork

Hard work has never made anyone rich.

Relocation will only amplify the same hard work you are trying to exit and may be counter productive in the end.

Have an unassailable knowledge of your business, have connections and contacts in your industry and allow time and chance to do the heavy lifting.

Hard work is still paying but not as lucrative as before.

You can't be working hard and be broke. You might not be rich but broke? No

Hard-working is summary of everything connection, luck, ideas, job, searching for futuristic goals, mental awareness, discovering soft skills and never backing down. If you are not hardworking then you are dead. Nobody makes it without hardwork. Don't envy anyone, because that person you see driving benz has already did alot of hardworking behind the scenes that you didn't see.

Even davido, though he use his father's money to get into music, but the hardwork here is his consistency and adaptation in music.

Life is a ghetto!

Hardwork is still the most important. Even if you relocate, you still need to work hard to succeed in your new country.

[quote author=Love800 post=137821223]Valid points. Hard work is non-negotiable, but combining it with smart choices and adaptability makes the difference today.

True talk. Hard work, consistency and adaptation are key. No shortcuts.

I agree that smart work plays a big role. However, even the “brain work” of rich people still involves discipline, execution and consistency, which is also hard work in another form.

Rich people execute most of their physical actions first in their thoughts before doing it physically. That alone will make you to use less energy in physical things as you are already prepared psychologically.

Task that will take 3 hours to finish, if I do proper brain work before doing it, I won't spend up to 2 hours before I will complete it

agree that nobody makes it without hard work. My point is that in today’s Nigeria, hard work works best when it’s combined with skill, positioning and opportunity. Consistency really matters.

A teacher with her dedication and hard work, can she buy a Ferrari?

Hard work is still the foundation. Everything else is a complement.

Take a look at the trajectory of tinubu path to the presidency and if you are sincere the answer will be staring at you.

Grab grab grab and run with it. Does that sound like hardwork to you?

Using one political example to dismiss hard work entirely might be too broad a conclusion. Different paths to success exist, and most sustainable success still requires effort, planning and long-term consistency.

Not every profession is structured for extreme wealth, and that doesn’t invalidate hard work. A teacher may not buy a Ferrari on salary alone, but that doesn’t mean hard work has no value.
it means income is influenced by industry, scalability and economic structure.

I agree that hard work is important, but I think we should separate effort from outcome. Two people can work equally hard and still have very different results because of access, environment and opportunity. Hard work matters, but structure and leverage matter too.

Hard work is the foundation, but in Nigeria’s current reality, it’s not the complete equation. Exposure, branding, access, and sometimes timing or favour also play a role. That’s why two hardworking people can have very different outcomes.
