DissTroy:Today it might be difficult for most CMDs to do that, but around those 2006 Dem, which was one of the examples given, it was common to see fresh medical grads doing housmanship getting like 150K per month, and this came to around $1,000. I'm sure your CMD from that era would have been taking like 500K per month (plus allowances) that's around $3,000, his two months salary would comfortably pay for a semesters tuition, plus small upkeep money for a child in the UK, or other European countries. So that people could take their kids abroad less than two decades ago isn't automatically sign that they were corrupt or stealing from the government...these things were a lot easier to manage then. |

Theflint1:----- Minimum wage in 2006 was #5,500 per month. Dollar to naira in 2006 was $1 to #132. Minimum wage in 2006 was (#5,500 ÷ #132) = $41.66. ---- Minimum wage in 2025 is #70,000 a month. Dollar to naira in 2025 averages $1 to #1,500. Minimum wage in 2006 was (#70,000 ÷ #1,500) = $46.66. The average civil servant earns more in 2025 in dollar than they earned in 2006. Because inflation was lower then, he might have survived better in Nigeria; but in forex, he couldn't have competed based on his salary. So how did be train his children abroad? Another analysis I did in the WhatsApp group which caused the uneasiness. The man who also backed me up is the State Chairman of the State Civil Societies Organisation. Man, these guys have been corrupt since forever. But I dropped the issue though then in there. No need to needlessly put a mark on me when I've already made my point. |

DissTroy:The discussion isn't about the average civil servant tho, we're talking medical professionals. And I'm not holding forth for corrupt civil servants either, I know as e dey go with them, my point is these things were with a lot of sacrifice possible a few administrations back. |

Theflint1:Find it here: https://nsiwc.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/CONHESS-CONMESS-1998-2014.pdf. For 2007, go to page 80. This is the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) 1998 - 2014. Did you know the meal allowance for Levels 15 to 17 was #10,800 PER ANNUM in 2007? You'd find this on page 82. PER FREAKING ANNUM! And I bet many state governments were paying less. Actually, they were. Why do you think NMA and JOHESU use to always go on strike, even then, complaining about non-commensurate pay? You think they were SUG boys showing off on campus? I should know, as the son of a Doctor. I have mentioned it here several times. I did similar analyses when this came up in May, but you guys were bent on believing what you wanted, even when I kept posting links and screenshots. Why do you think Doctors kept campaigning to be able to do private practice even as civil servants? Doctors were never paid as much as they deserved, even then - not as much as the public assumed they earned. The CMDs who were training multiple children in the West knew what they were up to. |

DissTroy:I think you should be checking from page 143, cause it seems the document first reviewed previous salary structures, and it led up to what the new salary structure was to be. A university graduate from a medical degree would start at say level 7, and if you check, yearly salary for them was around 900K plus...by the time you add their many allowances, e go dey reach that number I talk. It was pretty normal then for medical professionals to return from housmanship and buy a car with their years work, and this was when you could get Honda Civic for around 800-900K. And according to the document you posted, a CMD which I guess would be at least grade level 13 was earning basic at least 2.7M and up to 5.1M...and this was around 2011. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:16pm On Dec 18, 2025 |
A CMD earning around 7.5M (if you add allowances) which came to around 50K USD around 2011 would with some sacrifice have paid school fees and living allowances (30K USD) for 2 kids in some parts of the UK, Europe, and even the US. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 10:22pm On Dec 18, 2025 |
Theflint1:You're going back and forth. You mention 2006 - 2007. I checked that period then you mentioned for 2011. Focus on the time period in view. Then convert the salaries to dollar. Also, factor in expenses from annual salaries. They have families, right? Even if you jump to 2011. Dollar to naira was $1 to #165. CMD basic salary was #2.3 million like you mentioned annually. That's #191,666 per month as CMD salary. #191,666 is $1,161 per month. It was way lower in 2007, remember? But $1,161 per month as salary for a CMD. Which is $13, 939 per annum 2011. (Again in 2006 -2007, it was way less). So, from $13,939 he could pay all his bills and train his children aboard? If you add allowances, the total accrued allows for a CMD in 2011 is stated in the PDF? So how could he have afforded such? How much as tuition, travel, upkeep, visa and the likes for his kids, in say UK/US? From his $13,939 annual salary? After deductions for upkeep and sundry bills? LOL. We know the truth, man. Citing the document then, I had taken time to go through the whole PDF. Even looking at it on PC now so I can zoom in. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:33pm On Dec 18, 2025 |
DissTroy:That 2.3M was the base salary, allowances would probably be like 50% of basic, so that salary was more around 3.4M, and this comes up to 23K USD. Of course most of these doctors don't just do their government work and keep it at that, they usually have private practice which would pay them as much if not more than what the government was paying them...this will bring that yearly income to 46K. With some sacrifice, he'd pay that 30K and live off the remaining 16K. Your point was the only way the CMD could afford to send children abroad was via corruption, I've shown that might not necessarily be the case. If we take back to 2006, exchange rate was lower, and school fees abroad would have been a bit less too...that formula would have worked even then. I know schools in the US that even as at 2013/2014, their semester fees were less than $2,500 (Jackson State University and MVSU). If you comb through Ukraine, a popular stomping ground for parents sending their kids abroad then, you'd find less sef. |

izzou:Whether Democrat or Republican party, the US foreign policy decisions largely stay the same. This is not about Trump or Trump trying to emulate Putin. Washington have always sought for regime change in Venezuela just like in Cuba & others. Where regime change fail, they will mount unilateral illegal sanctions to cripple the country. Venezuela have been under US imposed economic sanctions for decades. Trump is just taking it to a higher level. In the 50s, Iranian government nationalized oil companies, the West got angry and violently did a regime change & installed a puppet government until the Ayatollah came on board during the Iranian Revolution. Till date, the British/Europeans have not forgiven the Ayatollah. This is also one of the reasons they will defend Israel as far as the Ayatollah are in power. Venezuela🇻🇪 is home to the world largest proven oil reserve. Iran🇮🇷 is number three just behind Saudi Arabia. E get why we dey support & preach for multi polarity & balance of power in the international system. If Russia, Iran & China can help checkmate the arrogance & abuse of power from Washington, they have my support.

Theflint1:Priavte practice was not always legal as a civil servant. If caught... Work in Lagos then have your private practice in Sagumu or Ijoko. No social media then so you could hide it to some extent, If we take back to 2006, exchange rate was lower, and school fees abroad would have been a bit less too...that formula would have worked even then.Exchange rate between 2006 and 2011 wasn't much. #132 in 2006 and #165 in 2011. Okonjo-Iweala tried on inflation, I digress. And in 2006, salaries were much lower. I think minimum wage was reviewed twice in those 5 years. I done the analyses over and over, and not just on this thread. I've been having debate for a long time on other platforms. |

DissTroy:A CMD earning at least 46K USD in public and private practice would have afforded school fees and living expenses of as low as 25K USD per year for two kids in Ukraine or Ireland. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 11:00pm On Dec 18, 2025 |
Even private practice was frowned upon for civil servants back then because of assumed divided loyalties. To navigate this, a few would work in , say, Ikeja then own a medical center in Sagumu or Adalemo or Ijoko. No social media then so it was easier to keep it under the hood from your PPA. NMA and JOHESU went on strike so muchm they were the most prominent bodies going on strike. Forgotten those weekly press conferences and videod protests you watched in the evening before Papa Ajasco and SuperStory came on? I remember because it use to make for small talks with the grown-ups while I just watched TV but all was within earshot. I don't even know if I can't fault those CMDs remembering what I do about how the government treated them. But, still, to fund their lifestyles was no way bankrolled by their salaries alone. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:04pm On Dec 18, 2025 |
Theflint1:Are you factoring in family bills, expenses incurred by the private practice and other miscellaneous? It's possible tho but it will come at great sacrifice from the family. |

DissTroy:You've left numbers and embraced conjecture ![]() Doing another job alongside your government work has been frowned upon since forever, but it has never stopped government workers from those selling melon, clothes, jewelries, land, private medical practice and even ghosting totally. Yes, doctors have always striked, doesn't mean there wasn't a time when things were better than they are today, with as much or even less strikes sef ![]() |
