Oju àwo l'awo fi n gbọ bẹ.... meaning I'd rather do it myself. For this kind of arrangement, I'll always feel cheated, besides, you can't know my taste.
Well, good for you.

That is premium big bull, it's 74k. The other variant is 59k. Okomu oil is 8-9k in Lagos. The Groundnutoil is 17k.Its not too bad considering transportation. Checking time value of money, he should get more as money was being invested monthly and pulled to buy in bulk
folake4u:
Ishi, that salt nor pass 1k. Dental floss too.

Bama mayonnaise is within the range of 2-3k.
Okomu palm oil 4litres is between 6-7k. (I just asked my Mum how much she got hers and she told me this price range in Benin). Maybe his location is more expensive.

He was really cheated.

Women will always think they cheat you until they go to market themselves and buy worst.

It alway feel like that when I pick food items of 40k-50k each time I reach house I I always ask myself the same question. The money is big for eye. But what it can buy will just small for eye. Until you calculate them again.

That rice look like the original one. From jumia it's big bill is between 70k-75k and from review people still complain it's local rice and stones
Bro it’s local rice

Re: December Rice Contribution by aribisala0(m): 5:57pm On Dec 20, 2025
Even if the pricing is not optimal it does not mean cheating
The coordinator might be an Ajebutter type or someone who does not know where to go or how to go about this
I wonder how many of you are contributing
That is what I see as the main advantage if there are many of you like 50 then you can get wholesale prices
If it is just 10 or fewer people you might not save much

The other thing is the choice of what to buy

Maybe everyone should write a list of 15 items. And you all agree on like 10.
You can even advertise for bids from traders to supply direct to your office if you are spending like 2 million upwards . In Lagos
There are people whose business is shopping and delivery for families weekly or monthly. If you get bids you know what to expect
Going to market takes time and can be stressful so having items delivered is convenient
The popular items are usually rice and oil Maggi tinned tomatoes Maybe sugar and salt but not everyone eats salad cream

Don’t mind that guy that said he bought rice 45k , ask him where he bought it , even in Cotonou rice is 46k there and they will use 10k carry it reach Lagos or Ibadan that is 56k and the seller will add her profit let say the seller sell that rice 65k , that groundnut oil is around 22k , palm oil let’s say 12k that 3 sef don reach 100k , now calculate the rest they add for you , plus their transportation to market… you should thank your office people Dey do well and dem Dey honest
I still bought both oil today. Ground nuts is #11000 for 5 litres, same with the red oil though some sold it for 12k for 5 litres. Rice should be about 65-70k. I don't feel they cheated him though too but I just want to correct some amount. Booku here sell rice for #69000 for 50kg

This food contribution trend is still somehow new so the organisers will want to appear transparent and give value for money. By the time it becomes more popular and more people jump in, that's when those organisers will start scamming Nigerians anyhow, people should shine their eyes o.
Exactly.
Been doing it for four years straight.
Not this year. We were cheated last year

Ok let's do a rough estimate of the items you got to see if you were cheated or not

1 cartoon of Gino tomatoes (sachet ones) - no idea (let me just put at 10k)
5liter g.oil ≈ 15k
4liter p.oil ≈ 14k
2 packets of salt ≈ 1k (N500 each
1 bama ≈ 3k
Knorr Maggi ≈ 2,500
Dish washing liquor (medium sized) ≈ 1500
Dental floss/toothpick ≈ 1k
Bag of rice ≈ 60k (most likely less)

Total ≈ N105k give or take 10k. I wouldn't exactly say you were cheated but the organisers can do better
As I type my wife is still angry with me.
What's my fault here, should I reject the stuffs, I can't na

this is water under the bridge. you entered this transaction with the understanding that you would get good prices. this unfortunately did not happen.

What you can do is raise this issue with the cooperative in January. it is too late now. get prices direct from bokku or from some other supermarket and make it crystal clear that the prices are above standard market rates. based on the reaction/response, you can then decide whether to continue with the cooperative or not.

As a nigerian matter, someone in your cooperative likely pulled a fast one. what you want to do going forward is ensure there is a consensus on where the items will be sourced from going forward - with rates presented to the group and compared with prevailing market rates

one of the purpose of a cooperative is to be able to get bargains for the members via bulk purchase. if it is not meeting its purpose, then it is time to move on.

[quote author=Drsnives post=137853386]Them say this brand na 75k but since they bought am in bulk na 70k dea buy am[/quot.]

Which makes it a good deal. Vegetable oil is 20k. There is carton of tin tomatoes and palm oil. It is a good deal!
